Four new inductees into the Frazee-Vergas High School Hall of Fame were honored during a special ceremony on Saturday night in Frazee. The induction ceremony, which honored Luke Pfeifer, Alexis Tappe, the 1999 Frazee Hornet wrestling team and the 1983 Frazee girls basketball team, was held at the Frazee Event Center on Saturday night.
Luke Pfeifer
Luke Pfeifer graduated in 1996 after having set four school records and a state record in track and field.
Pfeifer had multiple all-conference awards in the high jump, 110 meter hurdles, and 100 and 200-meter dash. He set the school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.9 and high jump with a jump of 6 ‘6.” He still holds the school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.8 and in the 110-meter high hurdles at 14.1.
Pfeifer competed at the state level in all these events where he was a two time state champ and state record holder in the 110-meter high hurdles. During his junior and senior year, he also placed in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, as well as in high jump at the state level.
Pfeifer competed in track and field at NDSU. While at NDSU, he was a three-time indoor NCC champ in the high hurdles, and was a four time outdoor NCC champion in the high hurdles. At that time, there had been only seven total athletes in the history of the NCC that were four time champions, and he was .36 seconds away from making the Olympic trials competing in the hurdles.
Pfeifer graduated with a degree in Corporate and Community Fitness and a Nutrition minor. He is married to his wife Kari Pfeifer, has one son named Devan and one grandson named Forest.
Alexis Tappe
Graduating in 2013, Alexis Tappe was a three sport athlete, where she earned herself a Triple Crown Award, along with being nominated for the MSHSL Triple A Award and the MSHSL ExCel Award. She participated in volleyball, basketball and softball where she earned 12 varsity letters, along with seven all-conference honors. She ended her volleyball career being in the top three in blocks and kills.
In basketball, she is currently the all-time leader in points with 1,693 and top three in rebounds, assists, steals and three pointers. She was voted as the HOL Co-MVP her senior year along with earning all-state honors where she earned the opportunity to play in the MN All-Star Basketball Game.
In softball, she earned second team all-state honors her senior year, which gave her the opportunity to play in the MN All-Star Softball game. Along with her sports, she was a member of NHS, Prom Committee, Band, Student Council and the Leadership Academy.
Tappe played basketball in college at Northern State from 2013–18 and was voted captain her junior and senior years. She earned a degree in Physical Education along with a degree in Human Performance and Fitness. She served in numerous organizations during her career and was on the Dean’s list from 2013–18.
Tappe was employed at Frazee as a teacher and coach before moving onto the college ranks where she served as an assistant coach and head strength coach for the women’s basketball team at Missouri Valley College. She then earned her Master’s Degree in Sports Management at Central Missouri.
1999 wrestling team
The 1999 wrestling team started the season ranked as the best team in Class A wrestling. They held that rank all the way through the season where they ended their season as state champions and a 14-1 record. They set the current school record of most points scored at a tournament with 304.5 (13 weight class scoring), won the HOL conference title, along with four invitational championships, one including the large Bismarck Rotary Championship.
The Hornets had 12 wrestlers qualify for the state tournament (most ever by a team at Frazee) and five of those individuals went on to place in the top six at state. All 13 wrestlers had 20 or more wins for the team.
1983 girls basketball team
The 1983 girls’ basketball team produced one of the best seasons a girls’ team has ever had in Frazee. They were the HOL champions along with being District 23 Champs. The team advanced to the regions where they lost to Wheaton, who later placed third in the state during a two class system.
The team produced a record of 16-6 while setting multiple season records at the time. They set the most points scored in a season at 1,440, team rebounds in a season with 1,102, had an overall team free throw shooting percentage of 68 percent and had four individuals who went on to set season records along with one being the Conference MVP.
