Aaron Damlo may be a Lakeville, Minn. resident, but he knows his roots stretch back to the Frazee area. “I love coming up to visit,” he said. “I’m hoping next summer I can spend more time there.” Aside from providing his enthusiastic demeanor, Damlo is also making the area communities a better place. He recently built several planter boxes at the Boys and Girls Club in Detroit Lakes, so participants and staff can plant vegetables and harvest them. Damlo had the help of his grandfather Delta Daggett and Patrick Petermann, the club’s executive director, to move the planters.
Even a little snow and rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of students at Frazee School last week. Members of the Frazee High School football team performed a dance at the homecoming pep fest on Thursday, Oct. 10. The parade was cancelled through downtown, but the rest of the events went off as planned last week.

George Matz has raised squash most of his adult life. Up until this year, he specialized in average-size acorn squashes. This year, he decided to switch to Hubbard squash. He got one that was anything but average sized. It was 26 pounds. Usually, Hubbard squash average 10 pounds each. Matz, an Illinois native and a retired teacher, lives on Height of Land Lake.
About 150 firemen, representing six counties, are scheduled to be in Frazee Thursday, Oct. 28. The Frazee Fire Department will be hosting the Northwest Regional Association of Fire Departments’ annual meeting. The event, at the Frazee Fire Hall, will be a combined business meeting and training session, according to Frazee Fire Chief Jerome Tappe.
Nick Woodard and Mandy Nordberg were crowned king and queen of the Frazee High School Homecoming last week. Nick is the son of Mike and Renee Woodard and Mandy is the daughter of Tom and Penny Jessop, all Frazee.

Diane Lomsdal, a senior at Frazee-Vergas School, was chosen 1974 Homecoming Queen on Friday. Diane is the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Orris Lomsdal of Frazee. She is 5’-5” tall, has green eyes and blond hair. At F.H.S. Diane is active in band, Honor Society, and is president of the Spanish Club and Future Homemakers of America. Her favorite subject is math and she enjoys horseback riding as a hobby.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Niemann have announced the sale of the City Limits Club in Frazee to a former Frazee man, his wife and sister-in-law. The new owners are Delbert (Bud) and Mary Julius and Lydia Troutman, who took over the business last week. Bud Julius is the son of the late Carrol and Evelyn Julius who also operated the City Limits Club several years before selling to the Niemanns about five years ago.
“Pride in Minnesota,” theme of the 1974 Jaycee Fall All State Convention, expressed the sentiments of 1300 registrants as they met October 11-13 at Bemidji, Mn. Dave Ferguson and Dave Daggett represented the Frazee Jaycees at the regional and membership meetings. Current and proposed projects ranging from the statewide Honey Sunday program to various local activities were examined for merit and possible improvement.
