More than half of high school juniors have vaped at some point within 30 days, according to Frazee High School principal Anna Potvin. Of those that used, the top ways of obtaining the product were through friends (85 percent), followed by 26 percent talking someone into buying it for them. Of those that purchased the products, online was the most popular method, according to a state student survey given to grades 8, 9 and 11. In comparison, only 8 percent of juniors had smoked cigarettes; 4 percent used a chew product.
In Frazee, no new rental units will be allowed to be licensed in residential areas. The Frazee City Council enacted a moratorium on new rental unit registrations during its monthly meeting on Monday, Oct. 14. Councilman Mike Sharp emphasized the city was taking a “time out” to review the options with rental density limits.
Cheryl Kicker is watching her husband’s life-long passion ignite joy and wonderment in hundreds of lives. “Keith was always fascinated with how older things were made,” Cheryl said. Before he lost a six-year battle with a rare form of leukemia, the son of LeRoy and Ardyce Kicker had about 212 tractors. The Vergas resident bought and restored them all.

The jury’s still out because all the corn’s not in, but it looks like it’s been an excellent crop season, say area farmers. Plenty of well-timed sunshine and rain has turned the 1999 growing season into “a bumper year, all year long” said Dan Feldt. He explained that he’s just getting ready to harvest his corn, and he expects a good crop. In terms of hay, Feldt said, eh has already harvested not only one good crop, but three of them.
The Frazee Community Development Corporation is still working towards its goal of building a community center. This year, the lot near the liquor store was cleared for the building. Efforts are now being concentrated on changing the non-profit corporation’s status to allow donations to be tax deductible, aside President Fred Daggett.

The first annual Frazee Lions light bulb sale date was set for Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the regular meeting of the Lions Club held Wednesday at the Stone Hearth. Lions International are deeply involved in sight and hearing conservation. A new s special hearing center is scheduled to be built in Minneapolis, sponsored by Lions International, and local club members will be asked to make contributions to help kick off the project.
Gov. Wendell Anderson will participate in an open house to which the public is invited starting at 3 p.m. Friday at the Detroit Lakes Vo-Tech Institute. From 5:30-7 p.m. Friday the Governor will be honored at a reception in the Driftwood Room of the Erie, Jr. Governor Anderson’s visit to Detroit Lakes is one of a series of stops scheduled during his three-day campaign swing through the 7th Congressional District. Upon departure from Detroit Lakes early Friday evening, he will continue on to a stop in Wadena.
Robert Leuben, general manager at the Swift D&P plant in Detroit Lakes, has announced a planned cutback in processing at the company’s plants in Detroit Lakes and Frazee. Leuben said processing at the Frazee plant would be stopped Nov. 29 and resumed again in May or June of next year. At Detroit Lakes, processing will be halted for about four weeks after the first week in December, and only limited processing in the first few weeks in 1975.
