In a game that was tied for much of the first half, the Frazee Hornets had a chance to knock off top ranked and undefeated Barnesville on Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, after ending the first half in a 6-6 tie, the Hornets were unable to keep pace with the powerful Trojans offense in the final 24 minutes of action as Barnesville came away with a 44-12 win over Frazee.

“We played a very good first half,” said head coach Russ Hackel. “The second half wasn’t bad either, but to play with them you have to be on your assignments all the time.”

After Barnesville took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 32-yard run, Frazee tied the game at 6-6 in the second quarter when Adam Vigen threw a touchdown pass. In a defensive struggle throughout the first half, the game remained 6-6 at halftime.

In the second half the Trojans were able to flex their muscles a bit as they scored on a pair of touchdown runs in the third quarter from 10-yards and 17-yards out, while adding four more touchdown runs in the fourth quarter to come away with the 44-12 win.

The Hornets end the regular season with a record of 3-5 overall and received the fifth seed in the section tournament. Frazee will travel to fourth seeded Park Rapids Area on Tuesday night to take on the Panthers who are 4-4 on the season.

On October 11 the Panthers defeated the Hornets by a score of 57-23 in a high scoring game in Park Rapids. The winner of the game will take on either top ranked and undefeated Barnesville or eighth seeded Crookston on Saturday at the high seed.

Hackel said the Hornets will look to limit their mistakes against the Panthers in the opening round of the section tournament. He said if Frazee is able to limit mistakes, and be sound on their assignments, they should have a good opportunity to come away with a win on Tuesday night.
