Now is the time to clean out old, not used drugs

GROW Frazee-Vergas would like to invite the public to take part in an important event coming up to help safeguard their home for local youth. National Drug Take Back Day, Saturday, Oct. 26, is an important event aimed at addressing the growing issue of prescription drug misuse and ensuring the safe disposal of unused medications. Organized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), this initiative encourages individuals to clean out their medicine cabinets and dispose of unneeded prescription drugs safely.

There are two National Take Back Days, typically held each spring and fall, that shed attention to designated collection sites across communities where people can go to drop off their unused medications. Last April, 335 tons of unused medications were collected nationwide. Safe disposal saves lives, protects the environment, and makes for safer communities.

The event not only helps to prevent prescription drug misuse but also raises awareness about the dangers of opioid and other prescription drug abuse. It fosters a sense of community responsibility and encourages individuals to have conversations about drug safety with family and friends. The service is free and confidential, with no questions asked. The DEA and local law enforcement work together to ensure that the collected medications are disposed of in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

GROW Frazee-Vergas encourages residents to utilize these sites on any day, not just October 26. In Frazee, designated drop locations can be found at the Police Station and Seip Drug.  To search for drop sites in other communities, please visit: www.apps.deadiversion.usdoj.gov.

GROW Frazee-Vergas thanks residents for taking a proactive approach to disposing of their unused medications in your home. You are the best role models for the youth in the community.
