In May, with a $25.6 million bond referendum failing to pass, the Frazee-Vergas School Board and administrators knew there would need to be a regrouping fairly soon. At the very least, Frazee-Vergas Superintendent Terry Karger said, the school board members felt it was best to, “have a workshop to determine where we go from here.” That workshop, which was held on Wednesday, Oct. 30, is the first of more to come, Karger said.

When the national anthem plays, veteran Beth Belflower is filled with pride. The pride comes from the ideals of democracy for her fellow veterans and those who support them stateside. After 14 years of serving her country, the 40-year-old is still overcome with emotion on Veterans Day. The daughter of Chuck and Mary Lepisto of Toad Lake, and Colleen and Ken Fix of Park Rapids, joined the Army National Guard at 26 years of age.

In his first year of farming Blake Christensen lost about $6,000 due to the wet and unforgiving weather. The 20-year-old expected up to 1,000 bushels of grain to be pulled from his field, but only brought in about 300. “The water kept me out,” Blake said. “After so long the grain sprouts, and that is that.” The rural Frazee farmer said the gamble is part of the fun when it comes to farming.
