A pair of Frazee-Vergas High School students competed at the state swim meet at the University of Minnesota last week.

Hope Hamm, a senior at Frazee-Vergas, took ninth place overall in the diving competition. Hamm finished with a score of 336.5, which was just one point out of seventh place overall. Hamm was in sixth place overall at the conclusion of the semi-finals with a score of 248.45 as part of a jog jam of competitors from fourth place to 10th place.

The Frazee-Vergas senior went on to finish in ninth place overall after finishing just behind Rilee Durovec of Cloquet with 336.5 points and Maggie Graning of Becker with 337.05 points.

The winner of the diving competition was Alayna Kennedy of Austin with a score of 444.8.

Hope’s sister Grace Hamm qualified for state in a pair of events and qualified for the finals in the 100 butterfly. She took 14th place overall in the finals with a time of 1:00.63. Grace finished just .48 seconds out of a top 10 finish in the finals.

In her other event, Grace finished just four seconds away from qualifying for the finals as she took 17th place in the preliminaries with a time of 5:31.44. Only the top 16 times qualify for either the A or B finals in the event.

Additional information about the state swim meet will be featured in an upcoming issue of the Frazee-Vergas Forum.
