Dani Piche attended an annual leadership event in Detroit Lakes and returned as the western division president. To be considered, the daughter of Scott and Lisa Piche had to fill out and submit and application to be placed on the ballot. Each of the 13 schools in the division get one vote, and Piche had the most to win the presidential title.
The National Park Service agreed to work with the City of Frazee and Becker County in developing a plan for the proposed regional park north of Frazee. Clarence Matejka received 61 letters expressing admiration for the 99-year-old Frazee resident’s service to the country. “I’ve read them all twice,” he said, noting the gift came during a banquet in Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight activities. Clarence, who served in World War II, raised a son, Curt Matejka, who served in Vietnam. Curt, who lives in Perham, was also given a special gift on that trip. He felt appreciated; something he never felt after returning from the divisive war.

Fewer Frazee students are signed up for the school’s free-and-reduced-price lunch program, so the district may get less funding to help with reading, math and basic skills. About $69,000 less, it looks like today. The connection between the two things may sound far-fetched, but it’s real. Fewer students have applied this year for free or reduced-price school lunches, and as a result, the school district is at risk of getting significantly less federal and state funding for its Title I (which helps students with reading and math), compensatory aid (to assist with basic skills) and E-rate (technology) grant programs.
