The Frazee Hornets opened their season last week with a pair of tough Heart O’ Lakes Conference losses at home.

Ayden Grossman takes a contested layup in the lane as he finished with 10 points on just 3-5 shooting on Tuesday night.

The Hornets opened their season on Tuesday night with a 67-62 loss to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, before falling to Staples-Motley by a score of 65-43 on Friday night.

This week the Hornets will continue their unusually long home stand as they host Barnesville on Tuesday night and Breckenridge on Thursday night in a pair of HOL Conference games. Frazee’s opening nine games of the season are all at home as they do not have an away game until traveling to Perham on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Tuesday

Despite leading the visiting Rebels for much of the first half and midway through the second half, the Frazee Hornets couldn’t hold on for the win as they fell to DGF by a score of 67-62 on Tuesday night. The two teams were evenly matched throughout the game as both teams shot 40.3 percent from the field, the only differences were that DGF went 7-10 from the free throw line compared to 4-7 for Frazee and the Rebels hit two more 3-point shots than the Hornets.

Friday

A late run gave Frazee a 29-24 lead against Staples-Motley on Friday night. Unfortunately, the Cardinals got hot from behind the 3-point line in the second half and didn’t miss their free throws down the stretch to come away with a 65-43 win over the Hornets on Friday night.

Staples-Motley went 11-28 from behind the 3-point line and hit 14-19 free throws to come away with the win.

Frazee shot just 29.2 percent from the field, but held a big advantage over the Cardinals in points in the paint with a 32-16 advantage. They also played solid defense throughout the night as Frazee came away with 11 steals and forced 22 Cardinal turnovers.
