Hornets down Trojans 71-61 for first win of the season

The Frazee Hornets improved to 1-3 on the season after splitting a pair of games last week.
On Tuesday night the Hornets defeated Barnesville 71-61, before falling to Breckenridge in a battle down to the final seconds by a score of 63-59.
This week the Hornets will host Crookston on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m., before hosting Hawley as part of a boys-girls doubleheader on Thursday night.
Tuesday
Frazee finally got over the hump on Tuesday night as the Hornets defeated Barnesville by a score of 71-61. The Hornets traded the lead with the Trojans for much of the first half, before pulling away in the final 18 minutes of action. Barnesville made a game of it late, but Frazee hit its free throws down the stretch as they went 9-14 from the line in the game to come away with its first win of the season.
As a team the Hornets shot 47.5 percent from the field and went 6-19 from behind the 3-point line. They also dominated the Trojans down low as Frazee outrebounded Barnesville 41-35 and held a commanding 36-12 advantage in points in the paint.
Carter Sonnenberg had a big game from the field as he secured a double-double with 27 points, on just 11-14 shooting, to go along with 15 rebounds and five assists.
Adam Vigen chipped in with 15 points to go along with eight rebounds, while Asher Blaine also scored 15 points to go along with eight rebounds.

Thursday
The Hornets came up just short in their bid to pick up a second straight Heart O’ Lakes Conference win on Thursday night as Frazee fell to Breckenridge 63-59. The Hornets led for nearly the entire game, before surrendering the lead late in the second half after the Cowboys overcame a 35-24 halftime deficit.
Frazee shot the ball well throughout the game as they finished 45.3 percent from the field, but Breckenridge went 11-15 from the free throw line, compared to just 4-7 for the Hornets. Frazee also turned the ball over 27 times and surrendered 27 offensive rebounds to Breckenridge in the game.
Adam Vigen had a solid night from the floor as he scored 21 points on just 9-14 shooting to go along with five rebounds and seven assists. Asher Blaine scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while Carter Sonnenberg finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
