0Lakes Country Service Cooperative in Fergus Falls is kicking off its senior high Knowledge Bowl season with meets at Concordia College Friday, Dec. 20, and Friday, Jan. 3.
Frazee-Vergas’ team will be competing in the small school division.
Knowledge Bowl is a team academic competition for junior and senior high students that encourages teamwork, collaboration, effective communication, and strategic thinking. Students work together to solve oral and written round questions related to all areas of learning typical of elementary or secondary educational programs. Questions test students’ recall, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Over the course of the two days at Concordia, about 750 students from 37 schools in the region will be competing.
The competition will take place across campus from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
The rest of the season meets are held in Fergus Falls. The season ends with the top 48 teams from across the region competing at the State Knowledge Bowl meet in April held at Cragun’s Resort near Brainerd.
The academic contests are part of the Minnesota Service Cooperatives’ Knowledge Bowl program, which was created in 1979 to provide a format for student growth centered around academics.
Currently, more than 800 teams from 290 school districts statewide participate in senior high Knowledge Bowl competitions.
