An episode of Judge Judy that recently aired featured three Frazee residents. West and Kristine Fletcher filed in small claims court when about 50 trees were removed from their property without permission, and there was a twist that had to do with firearms being discharged. After filing, the Fletchers were contacted by producers of the show. “They apparently have people monitoring court cases in different areas and thought ours was interesting,” West said. “At first, we thought it was a scam.”

The cross country ski trails are packed, groomed and ready for the winter athletes to get out and enjoy the season. The East Frazee Trails are catered to the classic cross country skiers, which means they have set imprints for skis that use the traditional kick propelling movements. In comparison, skate skis require a groomed flat track, as those ski movements are more akin to those using hockey skates. The East Frazee Trails provide cross country skiers ample opportunity to feel in the wild, as they skirt around lakes, through woods and pastures.

Representatives of area telephone companies are hoping people don’t all test or use their phones at once on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. “Telecommunications traffic jams” have now upstaged potential computer problems as the biggest concern about the beginning of the year 2000. “When you awake on New Year’s Day, we urge you to resist the temptation to pick up the phone and see if everything’s ok,” said Steve Katka, general manager of Loretta Systems.  Although the telephone industry has worked hard to be Y2K-compliant, the national network could suffer from huge spikes in usage as users “test out” the system Jan. 1, according to Katka.

While a good number of new businesses have opened locally, many others have shifted their focus or expanded their current one. One of the most noticeable changes occurred when Chuck and Brenda Minge, owners of Spanky’s on Rose Lake and the Cedar Inn Cafe, purchased Frazee’s historic Baer Building. Since the beginning of the year, they’ve opened Blooming’ Blossom’s Ice Cream Parlor, Carlito’s Cantina and Tall Timber Gift Shop in what they’ve renamed as the Sky View City Centre.

At the community forum held recently many people expressed a concern over the many unshoveled sidewalks in our community. This is a safety hazard for young children who are then forced to walk in the streets. This winter let us enjoy our snow in the field and yards instead of the sidewalks. Kids interested in earning extra money shoveling snow call Becky Rice or June Gibbons. Anyone interested in hiring shovelers call one of these.

Deborah, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Salmonson of Frazee, was united in marriage to Joshua, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Aho of Wolf Lake on October 19th at 8:30 in the Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church in Wolf Lake with Rev. Arvo Onermaa of Hancock, Michigan officiating.
