Frazee took a lead late in the first half and never looked back as the Hornets defeated the Hawley Nuggets 71-60 on Saturday, Dec. 21.

While the Hornets took an early lead, Hawley charged back with a strong run in the middle of the first half, before a couple of late buckets gave Frazee a 34-31 lead at halftime.

In the second half it was all Hornets as they outscored Hawley 37-29 to improve to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.

Offensively the Hornets shot 43.3 percent from the field, including 18-36 on shots inside the 3-point line. Frazee also made the most of their trips to the free throw line as the Hornets went 11-15 from the charity stripe. The Hornets also did a good job of taking care of the ball throughout the night as they had just 16 turnovers, compared to 18 turnovers for the Nuggets.

Adam Vigen had a big game for Frazee as he scored 28 points after knocking down five 3-point shots. He finished with a double-double by adding 11 rebounds to go along with five assists.

Asher Blaine also had a solid night from the floor as he finished with 22 points and six rebounds. Carter Sonnenberg scored 12 points to go along with eight rebounds, while Dawson Lyman scored five points, Andrew Aho added two points and Ayden Grossman rounded out the scoring with two points in the win.

The Hornets were scheduled to take on Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday afternoon to round out the 2024 portion of their schedule. They will return to action on Friday, Dec. 3 when they host Roseau as part of a boys-girls doubleheader. Frazee will then host Warroad on Saturday afternoon in another non-conference game.
