Rij John Koehnen

A Frazee man was charged with felony mail theft in Becker County District Court.

According to court records, on Sept. 25, a Becker County deputy spoke to a woman who lives in Otter Tail County, but is a Frazee Post Office customer.

The woman reported two gift cards sent by her daughter had not arrived and were missing.

The daughter called the gift card company to inquire about the gift cards and relayed information that the cards had been used at the Frazee Post Office.

The Frazee Post Office turned over the information to the deputy. The records revealed the location, when and how much of the money on the gift cards was used. The Frazee Post Office postmaster also confirmed the victim’s address was in an area Rij John Koehnen served as a Postal Service employee.

One transaction was a $40 purchase at the Detroit Lakes Boys and Girls Club Thrift Store on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Surveillance video from that date allegedly recorded Rij John Koehnen, 31, of Frazee, making a $40 purchase with a stolen gift card. The deputy also located similar footage of Koehnen at the All In All gas station in Frazee. Koehnen allegedly made a purchase there with a gift card.

On Monday, Dec. 23, Koehnen was released without bail under standard conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 3 before Becker County District Court Judge Gretchen Thilmony.
