Hornets fall to 6-7 with a pair of losses in HOL action

The Frazee Hornets fell to 6-7 overall and 2-6 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference last week with a pair of tough losses.
On Tuesday night the Hornets fell to Pelican Rapids by a score of 71-51, before falling to Park Rapids Area on Friday night by a score of 69-57.
This week the Hornets will hit the road as they will travel to Barnesville on Tuesday, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Friday and New York Mills on Saturday.
The Hornets will return home next Tuesday night when they host the Menahga Braves in non-conference action.
Tuesday
The Hornets and Vikings were locked in a battle in the first half of Tuesday’s HOL Conference game in Pelican Rapids. Unfortunately, Pelican Rapids was able to pull away in the second half to come away with a 71-51 win. The score was just 28-26 at halftime, but Pelican Rapids shot a blistering 11-27 from behind the 3-point line and shot 46.6 percent from the field. The Hornets struggled a bit from behind the arc as they went 4-20 from behind the 3-point line and went just 9-20 from the free throw line.
The Vikings were also able to control the ball down low as they held a 41-30 advantage in rebounding in the game.
Carter Sonnenberg had a solid night from the floor as he finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while Ayden Grossman just missed joining him in double figures with nine points. He finished with a team high three steals in the game.
Asher Blaine scored eight points, while Adam Vigen scored seven points to go along with six rebounds. Dawson Lyman scored five points and Benjamin Reierson rounded out the scoring with four points in the loss.

Friday
A late first half run by Park Rapids proved to be the difference in a 69-57 win over Frazee on Friday night. Frazee trailed 33-25 at the halftime break.
Despite forcing 24 Panther turnovers the Hornets could not overcome a hot night of shooting for Park Rapids as they shot 53.3 percent from the floor. The Hornets shot just 31.8 percent from the floor but were able to come down with 14 offensive rebounds which led to 11 second chance points.
Four Hornets reached double figures with Adam Vigen and Asher Blaine each scoring 13 points. Vigen came led the way with five assists and five steals, while Blaine pulled down six rebounds.
Carter Sonnenberg recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Noah Mekalson scored 10 points to go along with five rebounds.
Ayden Grossman scored seven points, while Benjamin Reierson and Dawson Lyman rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.
