After junior Adam Vigen tied the school record for career steals last Saturday afternoon, he took sole possession of the career mark with three steals in a 93-48 win over Menahga on Tuesday night.

In addition to Vigen, senior Asher Blaine scored his 1,000th point in Tuesday’s win over Menahga as he finished with 25 points.

Tuesday

Tuesday was a night of milestones for the Frazee Hornets as a pair of basketball players etched their names in the record books.

Adam Vigen dives for a loose ball during last week’s home win over the Menahga Braves.

Coming into the game, senior Asher Blaine needed just 25 points to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark. He did that midway through the second half on a shot on the baseline. He finished the night with exactly 25 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists.

Frazee junior Adam Vigen tied the school record for career steals on Saturday in New York Mills, but took sole possession of the record from Mitch Anderson by collecting three more steals on Tuesday night.

In addition to the records, Riley Weldon, Ean Kilde and Mason Mickelson also scored their first points as varsity basketball players.

It was a banner night for the Hornets as they collected their eighth win of the season by powering past Menahga by a score of 93-48 on Tuesday night. The Hornets took a commanding 51-23 lead at halftime and continued to find success in the second half as the reserves played a big part of the final 18 minutes of action.

As a team the Hornets shot 45 percent from the field and forced 32 Menahga turnovers in the win. Frazee finished the night with 18 steals and 25 deflections to go along with 36 points off of turnovers.

In addition to Blaine, the Hornets were led offensively by Carter Sonnenberg who scored 16 points, while Vigen finished with a double-double by scoring 13 points and dishing out 10 assists. Noah Mekalson also reached double figures with 12 points to go along with eight rebounds.

Friday

Despite foul trouble in the second half for two of Frazee’s starters, the Hornets nearly knocked off Breckenridge on Friday night, but ultimately fell by a score of 70-66. The Hornets trailed 37-28 at halftime, but quickly got the game within a possession in the second half.

Head coach Ryan Vigen said he was proud of how the Hornets battled in the second half, despite having Adam Vigen and Carter Sonnenberg on the bench in foul trouble in the second half. Unfortunately, he said Frazee didn’t do a good enough job in the game rebounding the ball as the Cowboys held a 41-28 advantage on the boards. The Cowboys also held a 52-32 advantage in points in the paint.

The Hornets were able to find quite a bit of success from the field after shooting 47.5 percent and knocking down eight 3-pointers.

Asher Blaine capped off his big week with 20 points on just 8-13 shooting, while Adam Vigen scored 13 points and Sonnenberg scored 11 points to go along with five rebounds.
