Hamm takes eighth, Hoehne 12th at section meet

Eighth grader Grace Hamm took eighth place and Lola Hoehne took 12th place, at the Section 7-8 girls wrestling tournament over the weekend. With 47 teams competing in the multi-section tournament, which has just one class for all girl wrestlers across the state, three Frazee wrestlers competed in Brainerd over the weekend.
Hamm, who finished her eighth grade season with a record of 24-4, opened the multi-section tournament with a pin over LeeAnn Austin of Grand Rapids in just 56 seconds.
In the quarterfinals Hamm fell to Jaime Bayliss of Monticello by a 12-6 decision, before picking up a major decision over Mikayla Labarge of Hibbing in the consolation bracket by a 14-2 major decision. Hamm’s multi-section tournament came to a close when she fell to Taitum Kostecka of Cambridge-Isanti by a pin in the fifth round of the consolation bracket to capture eighth place at 124 lbs.
Hoehne took 12th place overall in the multi-section tournament at 130 lbs. after falling to Georgia Anderson of Sauk Centre-Melrose by a pin in the opening round. Hoehne advanced to the fourth round of the consolation bracket with a pin over Kiera Andress of WHA at the 2:18 mark of the match.
Hoehne’s season came to a close when she fell to Jadyn Eichberg of Bemidji in overtime by a score of 8-5 to finish her season with a record of 11-14 and a 12th place finish.
Also competing for the Hornets was Sierra Aufdenkamp fell to Bri Voight of Champlin Park in the opening round of the 142 lbs. tournament by a fall, before defeating Jazmyne Akins of Grand Rapids by a pin at the 2:25 mark of her consolation bracket to advance to the third round of the consolation bracket.
Her season came to an end when she fell to Gracelyn Erickson of Milaca-Faith Christian by a pin at the 4:56 mark of the match. Aufdenkamp finished her season with a record of 8-15 overall.
