The Frazee Hornets came up just short in their bid to complete a sweep of the Perham Yellowjackets last week. 

After winning a thrilling 62-60 game in Perham on December 17, the Hornets were unable to get the best of the Yellowjackets this time around as they fell by a score of 76-60 on Friday night.

Jayden Sonnenberg scored 27 points and pulled down 11 rebounds during last week’s game against Perham.

The Hornets got off to a solid start from the field as they shot 48 percent from the floor in the first half, but trailed 36-29 at the halftime break. 

The offensive output picked up a bit for both teams in the final 18 minutes of action, unfortunately, the Yellowjackets were able to force eight Frazee turnovers in the second half to come away with the 76-60 win. Frazee shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half, including 8-9 from the free throw line down the stretch. For the game, the Hornets shot 45.7 percent from the floor and hit four 3-pointers, as well as 12-14 from the free throw line.

Jayden Sonnenberg led the way offensively with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while she also finished with three assists. 

Brynn Larson also reached double digits as she scored 14 points to go along with three assists and two rebounds.

Katie Courneya knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to finish with eight points and four rebounds, Leslie Moore scored six points, Hailee Olson scored two points and Ruby Eckert rounded out the scoring with one point. 

Friday was the lone game of the week for Frazee as they have just three games remaining on their schedule. This week the Hornets will travel to Hawley on Tuesday night, before hosting Pelican Rapids on Friday night in their regular season home finale. 

On February 21 the Hornets will travel to Wadena-Deer Creek to take on the Wolverines in their regular season finale. The section tournament will kick off the week of February 24. 

Currently the Hornets are 12-10 overall and 6-8 in the conference. Frazee is tied with Hawley in sixth place in the conference with two games in the conference season to go. They are also in 10th place in the Section 8AA standings according to the QRF.
