Bailey Peichel took center mat on Saturday night with a chance to end his Frazee wrestling career with the ultimate title—a state championship. Peichel entered the match as the third ranked wrestler in the state and with a record of 41-2 overall. All that stood in his way was top ranked and undefeated Masyn Patrick of Holdingford who was 45-0 on the season.

Patrick ended his season with a tech fall win over Peichel to end the Frazee senior with a runner up finish at the state tournament and a record of 41-3 overall.
Peichel opened the state tournament with a tough 5-4 decision over Cannon Wacek of Westfield. After a scoreless first period, Peichel opened the second period in the down position and quickly earned an escape to take a 1-0 lead. He secured a takedown at the 1:30 mark of the period to lead 4-0 heading into the third and final period. Wacek secured a takedown to make the score 4-3, before Peichel got an escape to make the score 5-3. He would later be warned for stalling to make the score 5-4 to advance to the second round of state.

In the second round, Peichel won by a major decision by a score of 10-2 over Johan Alcantara Lund of Minneapolis North to advance to the semi-finals on Saturday morning.
In the semi-finals, Peichel secured a 4-1 sudden death win over fourth ranked Deegan Birkaker of Ogilvie to advance to the finals. Birkaker earned an escape in the second period and Peichel got an escape in the third period to tie the match at 1-1. In the overtime session, Peichel secured a takedown with just five seconds remaining to punch his ticket to the state championship.

In the finals, Patrick secured his third tech fall of the state tournament to capture first place over Peichel. The Frazee senior finished in second place at the state tournament with a record of 41-3 overall.
At 107 lbs., Ashton Reller wrapped up his season with a record of 34-13 after going 1-2 at the state tournament. He dropped a major decision over Liam Sommer of Kenyon-Wanamingo by a score of 11-0, before defeating Brody Herbst of Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Area by an 8-5 decision in the consolation bracket. His state tournament came to an end in the consolation bracket second round when he fell to Nolan Ourada of Redwood Valley by a 9-6 decision.
In his match against Herbst, Reller trailed 4-1 in the third period before he earned an escape and a takedown to take a 5-4 lead with 1:04 left in the match. Herbst tied the match with 17 seconds left by earning an escape, before Reller secured a takedown to take an 8-5 lead with just 3 seconds left in the third period.
In his final match of the tournament, Reller took a 5-3 lead after the second period. Ourada took a 6-5 lead when he secured a takedown. Reller got an escape with 1:09 left in the match to tie the score at 6-6, before Ourada got a takedown with just eight seconds remaining in the match to win by a 9-6 decision.
Christian Peichel had his season come to an end with a pair of losses in the state tournament as he fell by a tech fall to Isaac Guzman of Canby in the opening round of state, before falling to Kayden Eller of Jackson County Central by a fall in the consolation bracket to end his season with a record of 24-22.
In his only match of the state tournament, Liam Hamm came out on the short end of a tough 7-0 decision to Carson Othoudt of Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Area. The loss ends Hamm’s season with a record of 30-17.
At 139 lbs., Cash Osterman picked up a win and a pair of losses in the state tournament. He won his opening round match over Colton Wilson of LeSueur-Henderson by an injury default, before falling by a major decision to Owen Grunchow of West Central Area by a 12-3 score in the second round. In the consolation bracket Osterman had his season come to a close to Brady Murphy of WEM-JWP by a 4-1 decision. Osterman ended his season with a record of 35-15 overall.
Blake Sonnenberg wrapped up his season with a 2-2 record at state as he won his opening round match over Chase Bade of Saint Clair-Mankato-Loyola by an 11-10 decision. Sonnenberg trailed 9-8 heading into a wild third period. Bade earned an escape with 45 seconds remaining in the third period, before Sonnenberg earned a takedown with just 11 seconds remaining in the period to take the lead for good 11-10. In the second round, Sonnenberg fell to Colbe Tappe of Staples-Motley by a fall in 58 seconds, before bouncing back with a pin over Atley Strack of Sibley East at the 2:12 mark of the match to advance to the second round of the consolation bracket.
Unfortunately, Sonnenberg fell to Blake Giese of Canby by a 5-2 decision to end his season with a record of 33-18.
Frazee senior Cade Nagel had his season come to an end to Caleb Kurtti of Goodhue in the opening round of state. Nagel fell by a pin in 25 seconds and had his tournament come to an end when Kurtti lost in the second round of the tournament. Nagel wrapped up his season with a record of 33-13.
