A legacy of a coach is built by what they do, how they act and what they help their athletes achieve. Ta Fett announced her retirement as head coach from the Frazee High School Fly Girls, and leaves a historical legacy that is now a pillar of the school’s identity in athletics. The journey started 24 years ago. Her daughter was enthralled with dance and Fett made an off-handed remark that she should start a dance team. Her daughter, and daughter’s friend took those words to the bank and started announcing her statement as fact.
“On the first day of kindergarten we said we were ‘bus buddies.’ Ever since then, Conner and I haven’t been friends but instead, we’ve been brothers,” said Henry Kellerhuis. Kellerhuis and Conner Poppenhagen have been friends for over a decade, being there for each other in both the good and bad times. So it makes sense that he made sure to be there when his “bus buddy” accomplished one of his life long goals. Recently, Poppenhagen graduated from Marine Recruit Training Center in San Diego, Calif. He has talked about going into the military since he was a kid, and now he is making his dream come true.
The first eight months the mobile pantry offered its service in Dent, the volunteers sat, looking at each other, waiting for someone to show up. Myron Gunderson, Denny Breitzman and Karen Gorentz, all of Vergas, were surprised the mobile shelf with no restrictions for those who can use it wouldn’t have families in need. “Then one person came and awareness grew,” Gunderson said. “Now we serve 15 families regularly in the Dent area.”

A new development has taken place in connection with the hiring of a new Vergas city employee. Out of the nine people who have applied for the water/wastewater operator position, one is a member of the city council and another is the spouse of a member of the city council, said Mayor Roger Hanson. “I suggest that the prudent course of action is to limit further deliberation to the balance of the council, namely Bruce Sonnenberg and David Bruhn,” said Hanson in a prepared memo. “To assist them, I hereby appoint three former council members to serve in advisory capacity. They are Jeannette Bruhn, Paul Pinke and Irene Uhl.”
