Event to be held in conjunction with Maple Syrup Day on April 12 in Vergas

The Vergas Community Club and the Vergas Lions are once again partnering to celebrate maple—maple Syrup that is.

Whether you tap your trees and cook down the sap for maple syrup to sell or just enjoy personally, event organizers want to celebrate the art of making maple syrup. 

The festival will include the fourth annual Maple Syrup Tasting Contest at Summers Design Center from 7:30-11:30 a.m.

Bring a minimum of a half pint of maple syrup on April 12 and a panel of tasting judges will determine the sweetest maple syrup of the day. New amateur category, for those just beginning.

Here are details:

1. Anyone can bring in a minimum of a half pint of their maple syrup. (Please label with your name and contact information).

2. The time to do this is between 8-10 a.m. at Summers Design Center on Railway Ave, Downtown Vergas

3. A panel of fun judges will look for density, clarity and taste to determine the winning maple syrup of the day. The winner will be announced at 11 a.m.

4. The winner will receive a traveling trophy of a copper Maple Leaf, (your name placed on the trophy).

The annual Maple Syrup Day celebration is set for Saturday, April 12 and features everything from pancakes with real maple syrup, music and a 5k event. 

Maplewood State Park will also host a maple syrup demonstration throughout the day.
