Through the storm of uncertainty, all hands on deck are applauding one another. Students and their parents are impressed at how quickly their teachers created and are executing long-distance learning plans. Teachers are equally impressed with how students have taken to the new learning format, and how parents have now become their co-workers.
After helping create the Frazee Rescue and serving on the volunteer first responder squad for more than 35 years, Avis Hoehne has retired. “It taught me a few things, but I’m 83,” she said. “I use a cane now and don’t walk too fast. Spring and gardening go hand in hand for many. Now gardeners have the option of purchasing seeds from local residents Meg Perry and Zachary Paige. The rural Vergas residents met at a farming conference and started North Circle Seeds. Paige said he’s worked hard to create a tomato plant that is hearty in the region and offers a delicious delight for taste buds. He is also proud of the scarlet horn carrot, which provides a dark orange color and a savory sweetness. He explained the best and biggest of his personal carrot crop are saved, stored for the winter and replanted the spring. The replanted carrots produce flowers, which result in seeds.
