Frazee has its first confirmed case of the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. Emma and Tanner Duncan reported on their social media page they were the first case in Becker County last week. The Duncan family gave the Frazee-Vergas Forum permission to use posts regarding their COVID-19 experience from their social media page for articles in the paper. Emma, a Detroit Lakes native, divulged three weeks prior to being diagnosed with the virus she, her husband and daughter had returned from a large family vacation in Mexico. Luckily, no one else outside their family has shown symptoms.

The Frazee City Council held its quickest meeting in recent history on Monday, April 13 via conference call. During the monthly meeting the council was given a water treatment plant change order for review and presented with the department head reports. The city is in the process of replacing its water treatment plant and the change order was stated to be for water main revisions. Drawings were included of the proposed revisions and noted that 80 feet of new water main would be deleted from the plan alongside the existing water plant.

Face masks are a hot commodity right now. Many people who go shopping, or to public places, will be seen sporting the protective gear, especially after the Center for Disease Control urged those who venture outside to do so. A mother-daughter duo in Frazee are spending a few hours every day making two-layered masks for Frazee and Vergas residents using 100 percent cotton. The masks are available at Seip Drug and cost $5 each, which covers the cost of purchasing additional material.

The announcement, made last Thursday by the Frazee Education Association (FEA), follows a lengthy process of nomination and balloting, said committee spokesperson Cheryl Hiemenz. “I am honored,” Blauert said. “I just feel I am what I am because of the people I work with, the public and my family.” Blauert, who earned her degree at Moorhead State University, had been teaching at Frazee since she began her career 28 1/2 years ago.
