Frazee defeats Staples-Motley 15-4 for second win of season

The Frazee Hornets have opened their season with a pair of wins, including a 15-4 victory over Staples-Motley in Heart O’ Lakes Conference action last week.
This week the Hornets will host Barnesville in a doubleheader on Thursday night in their lone action of the week.
April 10
Frazee dropped a pair of games to Park Rapids on April 10, including a heart breaker 3-2 in extra innings to fall to 0-2 on the season.
After tying the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run single by Katie Courneya, Frazee fell to Park Rapids 3-2 when Vivian Shepersky led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run.
The Hornets were able to pick up just three hits in the game, including singles by Kaija Aschnewitz, Ella Ullrich and Katie Courneya.
Ellie Trieglaff took the loss on the mound as she gave up just three earned runs, six hits and three walks over seven innings of work.
In the second game of the night, Park Rapids was able to use the momentum they gained in the first game to come away with a 17-1 win over the Hornets.
The lone run of the game came off the bat of McKenna Wacker who hit a two out single that brought Ruby Eckert across the plate in the bottom of the third inning.
Trieglaff took the loss on the mound as she went 3 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs, six earned runs, seven hits and four walks. Caleigh Pausch pitched 2/3 innings and gave up 10 runs, eight earned runs, seven hits and four walks. Both pitchers struck out one batter.

Frazee went 1-2 in their opening season tournament at home on April 12.
The Hornets defeated Mahnomen/Waubun in a thrilling 11-10 game in the opener, before falling to Sebeka 17-0 and Roseau 13-2 to finish in fourth place.
In the opening game of the tournament, Frazee defeated Mahnomen/Waubun 11-10 in eight innings after scoring a pair of runs in the bottom half of the eighth. Mya Moore tied the game up with an RBI single, before Caleigh Pausch would cross the plate later in the inning to give the Hornets their first win of the season.

Frazee scored 26 runs to earn a split with Staples-Motley in Heart O’ Lakes Conference action on Tuesday night.
After falling to the Cardinals by a score of 12-11 in the opening game of the night, the Hornets secured a big 15-4 win in the nightcap to improve to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the HOL.
In the opening game of the night, Staples-Motley scored three runs in the second, fourth, sixth and seventh innings, including a bases loaded RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh to come away with the win. The Hornets had taken an 11-9 lead in the top of the seventh inning when Hailee Olson and Ellie Trieglaff earned a walk and a double and both came across the plate to score. Unfortunately, the Cardinals were able to strike in the bottom half of the inning to come away with the win.
Olson had a huge day at the plate as she hit a pair of three-run home runs in back-to-back innings with the first coming in the top of the third inning and the second coming in the fourth inning. She finished with three hits and six RBI’s.
Trieglaff took the loss on the mound as she went 6 1/3 innings and gave up 11 runs, 10 earned, while giving up 18 hits and striking out one hitter. Ruby Eckert pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up one hit, two walks and one unearned run.
In the second game of the night, the Hornets secured a big 15-4 win over the Cardinals. Frazee wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Caleigh Pausch connected with a two-run single, Alydia Mitchell earned a bases loaded walk and Ruby Eckert was hit with the bases loaded to bring runs across the plate. Ella Ullrich put an exclamation point on the inning with a three run bases clearing single to make the score 8-0.
The Hornets added two more runs in the second and third innings, as well as three runs in the fourth inning to come away with the win.
Ullrich led the way offensively with three hits and three RBI’s, while McKenna Wacker, Addy Aschnewtiz, Trieglaff and Kaija Aschnewitz each finished with two hits in the win.
Ruby Eckert picked up the win on the mound as she went 2 1/3 innings and gave up just three earned runs and six hits. Trieglaff pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and gave up just one earned run and two hits, while striking out two hitters.
