Hornets sweep Vikings for sixth straight win

The Frazee Hornets improved to 8-4 overall and pushed its winning streak to six games with a busy four games in four days stretch last week.

Following a dominant 18-1 win over Lake Park-Audubon on Tuesday night, the Hornets defeated the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs by s score of 12-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The Hornets pushed its winning streak to six games with a sweep over Pelican Rapids by scores of 16-1 and 13-12 on Friday.
Frazee has another busy week on tap as they hosted Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Monday, Hawley on Tuesday and Parkers Prairie on Thursday, before hitting the road on Friday as they travel to Perham.
Tuesday

Frazee blew past Lake Park-Audubon with a big 10-run bottom of the fourth inning to come away with an 18-1 win over the Raiders on Tuesday night. The Hornets were aided by six Lake Park-Aududon errors which led to 13 unearned runs in the win.
Blake Sonnenberg was dominant on the mound as he went all five innings and gave up just one hit, while striking out 13 hitters and walking just two. He gave up just one earned run, on an RBI single in the top of the first inning. He retired 14 of the final 15 batters of the game in order following that early RBI single with the lone exception being a two out walk in the top of the fourth inning.
The Hornets needed just six hits to pick up the win with Noah Mekalson leading the charge offensively with a double and four RBIs, while Conner Erickson hit a single, picked up three RBIs and scored three runs in the win. Chandler Ullrich also went 1-2 with four runs scored.

Wednesday
In a makeup game from Monday, Frazee jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as they scored in every inning they came up to the plate, with the exception of the fifth inning, on their way to a dominant 12-3 win over the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon. The Hornets outhit the Bulldogs by an 11-3 margin and took advantage of three OTC errors in the win.
The Hornets took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Adam Vigen led off the side with a walk. He scored on an Asher Blaine double, while Conner Erickson and Noah Mekalson followed with RBI singles of their own to make the score 3-0.
OTC chipped away at the lead a big with a single run in the second and a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, but would get no closer than 5-3 as Frazee scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning thanks to a two-run Karson Krause home run and a big five-run bottom of the sixth inning when a pair of runs scored by a walk and another by a hit batter. Andrew Aho also connected for an RBI single and Krause hit an RBI double to bring Blaine across the plate.
Blaine led the way offensively with three hits, while Krause had a double and home run and Aho finished with a pair of singles in the win.
Blaine picked up the win on the mound as he went all seven innings and gave up just three hits, three runs of which two were earned, walked four batters and struck out 11.

Friday
Frazee improved to 8-4 overall with a pair of wins over Pelican Rapids on Friday.
In the opening game of the afternoon, Frazee took advantage of nine Viking errors and pumped out 12 hits on their way to a dominant 16-1 win over Pelican Rapids.
The highlight of the game was a nine run fourth inning, followed by a three run fifth inning that gave Frazee a 16-0 lead.
Karson Krause had a big day at the plate as he went 2-4 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs, while Chandler Ullrich went 2-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs, while Asher Blaine went 2-2 with a pair of runs scored and Blake Sonnenberg finished with a pair of hits and two RBIs in the win.
Noah Mekalson picked up the win on the mound as he went five innings giving up just three hits and one unearned run. He struck out eight hitters and walked four in the win.
In the nightcap, Frazee jumped out to an early 10-2 lead thanks to three runs in both the first and second inning, as well as a four run bottom of the third inning, only to see Pelican Rapids storm back with three runs in the fifth, six runs in the sixth and a solo run in the top of the seventh inning.
Despite the tying run on third base and the winning run on second base with no outs, Karson Krause was able to work out of the jam in the top of the seventh inning to stop the damage as he struck out a hitter and forced a double play to get out of the jam and preserve the 13-12 win for the Hornets.
Krause led the way offensively for the Hornets with a home run, two hits and three RBIs. Frazee needed just five hits to pick up the win thanks to five Pelican Rapids errors and seven walks.
Dawson Lyman picked up the win on the mound as he went five innings and gave up five runs of which three were earned while striking out six hitters and just giving up a pair of hits. Krause pitched the final two innings of action and gave up six hits and seven runs of which one was earned while striking out one batter in the win.
