Many congregations are meeting through a virtual connection, but Harvest Church in Frazee has shifted from viral to drive-in. Pastor Ryan Stockstrom first heard the idea of a drive-in service on social media, in a pastor group. “They were holding these alternative type meetings in the south much sooner than we were able to up here, and it looked like they had good turn outs and it was a unique idea,” he said. “So, we thought it would be great to try something like that for our Easter service.”

Alisa Wolde sat in a saddle that was propped on a rack in her bedroom for four years before her parents conceded and let her buy a horse. “My mom thought I was crazy, but my dad understood,” the now 46-year-old recalled. Wolde went to work for a neighbor, painting the entire interior of their house to make her dream come true. What the dream gave her was an understanding of what unconditional love means.

A memorial is being planned for Patrick Prunty along the Vergas Long Lake Trail. The longtime trail committee member was always present and willing to donate his time and knowledge to raise funds for the trail project. After he passed away in early March after a hard-fought battle with stage IV lung caner, the committee began considering ways to honor Prunty.

If Frazee’s Jodi Geis seemed to be confident in her product before, she can hardly contain her enthusiasm now. Her product, Origin Sportsman’s Bouquets, were featured at he banquet of one of Minnesota’s top spring ceremonial events, the Governor’s Fishing Opener this past weekend. But more than that, they were complicated by Minnesota First Lady Terry Ventura, who was given a bouquet upon request; and Geis was introduced on stage as the maker of the bouquets by Gov. Jesse Ventura.

It’s been an on-again, off-again relationship between Bob Matthews and the bowling lanes in Frazee. The news is that Matthews is purchasing Zee Lanes and plans to reopen the business about June 1. Matthews is in the process of purchasing the business from Gene and Mary Ann Miller, who purchased the lanes from Matthews Jan. 1, 1996. Matthews, known for his love of remodeling, has already started making changes. He has made more room for food preparation and plans on putting the stools behind the bowling ball storage area so people can easily watch their favorite bowlers.

Fire destroyed the milking barn at Bob and Cindy Mayfield’s farm, located two miles east of Frazee, Thursday, May 11 at 9:11 a.m. “We were lucky—they were out,” Cindy said regarding the family’s dairy herd. In general, she said, the back of the barn was used as a loafing shed, and the cattle were only inside during milking time. Firemen were able to keep the blaze from spreading to adjacent buildings, including sheds which house bottle lambs and other farm animals.

Mrs. Wothe’s first reaction to being named “Queen For a Day” was, “It’s such a lovely surprise… can this truly be happening to me? I feel so very honored.”
