Frazee splits doubleheader with Perham for sixth win

The Frazee Hornets improved to 6-10 on the season and 5-6 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference with a split of a pair of games against Perham on Thursday. The game snapped a three game losing streak and sets up an important final week of action for both the conference and sub section standings.

This week the Hornets will travel to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Tuesday for a doubleheader, before traveling to Sebeka on Thursday for a non-conference game. On Friday the Hornets will host Breckenridge in a doubleheader in their regular season finale.
Currently the Hornets are in a tie with Staples-Motley for fifth place in the conference, just one half game in front of Barnesville who is 5-7.
Hawley is in first place with a conference record of 10-1, while Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton is 10-2. Park Rapids Area is 7-5, Breckenridge is 8-6, Staples-Motley and Frazee are 5-6, Barnesville is 5-7, Perham is 3-9 and Pelican Rapids is 0-11.

Ellie Trieglaff went 4-5 with four RBIs against New York Mills last week.
The Hornets are in sixth place in a loaded Section 6A. Swanville and New York Mills are in first and second place in the sub section with a QRF of 6 and 8, while Parkers Prairie is in third place with a QRF of 11. Upsala is in fourth place, Browerville in fifth place, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle is in seventh place and Brandon-Evansville is in eighth place.
On the other side of the bracket undefeated Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley has a QRF of four and West Central Area has a QRF of 12.
Section 6A currently has five teams ranked in the top 12 in the Class A QRF standings.
Monday
In a game that featured 26 runs and 34 hits, the Frazee Hornets and New York Mills Eagles found themselves in a bit of a slug fest on Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Eagles were able to overcome an early deficit and end the game with a three-run walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to come away with a 14-12 win.
Frazee wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as they scored six runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Ellie Trieglaff and a pair of two-run singles by Caleigh Pausch and Ruby Eckert to make the score 6-0. The Hornets made the score 7-0 in the second inning when Kaija Aschnewitz hit an RBI single of her own.
The Hornets added another run in the third, a pair of runs in the fourth on an Alydia Mitchell single, but found themselves trailing 11-10 heading into the top of the seventh inning. That’s when Trieglaff came through with a clutch two out, two-run double to bring Mya Moore and McKenna Wacker across the plate to make the score 12-11 in favor of the Hornets.
Unfortunately, NY Mills was able to have three straight batters reach base with one out, before Ayla Olson hit a three run home run to end the game in walk off fashion 14-12.
Trieglaff had a big game at the plate as she went 4-5 with three RBIs and three doubles. Wacker finished with three hits, while Aschnewitz and Eckert each finished with two hits.
Trieglaff took the loss in the circle after giving up 18 hits, 14 runs of which 13 were earned while striking out two hitters.

Tuesday
Hawley continued its dominant run through the Heart O’ Lakes Conference on Tuesday night as they defeated the Hornets by a score of 8-0. Frazee trailed just 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, before the Nuggets scored three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away.
Frazee managed just two hits in the game, both off the bat of McKenna Wacker who went 2-3 in the loss.
Ellie Trieglaff took the loss in the circle as she gave up 10 hits, eight runs of which three were earned, three walks and struck out one batter.

Thursday
Frazee split a doubleheader with the Perham Yellowjackets at home on Thursday night. In the opening game of the night, the Hornets were trailing just 4-3 with the Yellowjackets heading into the top of the seventh inning. Unfortunately, the Yellowjackets picked up five hits, a costly error and six runs to come away with a 10-3 win.
The Hornets were led offensively by Ella Ullrich who went 2-4 with an RBI and run scored at the plate.
Ellie Trieglaff took the loss in the circle as she went all seven innings, giving up 12 hits, 10 runs of which seven were earned, one walk and one strikeout.
In the nightcap, the Hornets were able to withstand yet another seventh inning comeback attempt by the Yellowjackets, this time coming away with a 6-5 win.
The Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Ella Ullrich led off the game with a double and scored on a fielder’s choice. Frazee took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Kaija Aschnewitz walked with the bases loaded to bring a run across the plate and Frazee added another run in the fourth inning when a run scored on an error. After Perham made the score 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Calleigh Pausch came through with a big two out, two-run single to put the Hornets in front 5-1. Perham added another run in the fifth inning, before Pausch hit what would end up begin the game winning RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 6-2.
Perham made a game of it late by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, and had the go-ahead run at the plate with two outs, before Ruby Eckert shut the door to collect the win in the circle.
Pausch led the way offensively with three hits, while Ullrich finished with a pair of hits, including a double.
Eckert picked up the win by going all seven innings, giving up 10 hits, five runs of which two were earned and striking out four batters. She also finished the game with five walks.
