Bring on the sunshine! The Detroit Lakes Public Library will offer a series of Sunshine Storytimes this summer, to be held outside the library at 1000 Washington Ave. At Storytime, a librarian explores various themes by performing stories, songs, rhymes and more. The program typically lasts 60 minutes and is geared for children ages 3-6, although children of all ages are invited to join the fun. The Sunshine Storytimes will be held on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. beginning June 5 and concluding on August 28.

The Storytimes will accompany the library’s jungle-themed Summer Reading Program. Beginning June 1, participants can read to win prizes as well as attend educational and entertaining programs at their local library or library LINK Site. Those interested in participating are encouraged to stop by their local library or LINK Site to pick up a reading log beginning June 1. Information about the program and event lists are available at larl.org/explore.

The program will be offered from June 1-July 31 at libraries and LINK Sites in the following communities: Ada, Bagley, Barnesville, Breckenridge, Climax, Crookston, Detroit Lakes, Fertile, Fosston, Hawley, Mahnomen, McIntosh and Moorhead. LARL’s LINK sites are found in Cormorant, Frazee, Gonvick, Halstad, Hendrum, Lake Park, Rothsay, Twin Valley and Ulen.  A number of fun programs will be held in connection with the reading challenge, including performances by national yo-yo master Dazzing Dave, author visits, craft events and much more. All programs are offered free-of-charge. More information is available at larl.org and a full list of programs can be found at larl.org/explore.
