Frazee golf team finishes section meet in 12th place

The Frazee girls golf team competed at the Section 8AA golf championship at Bemidji Town and Country Club from June 2-3. There are 16 teams in the section with the top six teams and the next 12 individuals making the cut to day two of the championship. From there, the top team and next five individuals advance to the Class AA state tournament at The Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.

The Lady Hornets had their second best team score of the season with a score of 410 on day one, which earned them a 12th place finish. They even beat DGF for the first time all season, which finished third in the difficult HOL conference.

Lilly Adams led the Hornets with a career low score of 96, which advanced her to day if the championship. Just missing the cut of 97 was Rylee Stock with a score of 98. Emma Wiseman had a 101, Onalea Maijala a 115, and Ella Perala a 119. Adams followed up with a score of 111 on day two which left her short of the state tournament qualifying score which was 166 for two days. 

Defending state champion Detroit Lakes took home the team championship with a two day total of 637, which was 60 shots better than second place Crookston. Tatum Gatheridge of Detroit Lakes took home medalist honors with a two day total of 153. Individuals advancing to state included Natalie Martin
of Park Rapids and Sophie Cook of Hawley with a total of 155 each. Annie Mayer of Fergus Falls had 163, Ava Martin of Crookston a165 and Bella Snobl of Barnesville claimed the last spot with a 166.

The Lady Hornets also held their season ending banquet and conjunction with the Frazee Golf fundraiser golf tournament on June 3. Earning awards for the lady hornets were Rylee Stock and Emma Wiseman with most outstanding golfer. Lilly Adams, Onalea Maijala and Ella Perala were awarded most improved golfer. Lilly Adams and Rylee Stock also were awarded with the most dedicated golfer.

Earning academic Allstate awards were Onalea Maijala, Emma Wiseman and Lilly Adams. The team also earned the gold award for academics with it a GPA average of 3.89.

“It was a fun season for the girls as we saw a lot of improvement during the year. They were a fun group to coach. I thank them for their dedication and I wish the seniors the best of luck with everything they in the future,” said head coach David Conzemius.
