While Turkey Days was canceled for 2020, the Tyler Shipman Memorial Car Show will be held, albeit in a very different and in a modern way. The popular event that draws more vehicles and even more visitors each year will be going online. Event organizer Daneele Shipman said the foreshadowing of the fate of the 11th annual memorial car show came to her mind as other area events canceled due to the pandemic.
Those driving along U.S. Highway 10 between Frazee and Detroit Lakes may have noticed trees had been cut down prior to June 1. The work done in the Minnesota Department of Transpiration right-of-way was in preparation for the Heartland Trail extension between the two cities. The project manager for state trail work, Kent Skaar, said the tree removal was time specific and had to do with the Northern long-eared bat.
The Frazee AMVETS and the Frazee Area Community Club joined forces to hold their first ever blood drive in conjunction with Vitalant Food Services. The drive on Monday, June 8 at the Frazee Event Center was unique, as volunteers were screened at the door with a temperature check and required to wear a mask.

The roof trusses were going up Tuesday at the new Frazee Event Center. It is hoped the center can be usable by Turkey Days at the end of July. Fund-raising efforts are at about the half-way mark for the building, expected to cost about $600,000.
Jessica Teckemeyer performed and modeled for all who participated in her send-off party Sunday at Frazee High School. Teckemeyer’s involvement with the Miss Minnesota Program began Wednesday in St. Cloud. Ten girls will be participating; next year the towns of Virginia and Detroit Lakes will join in. Her platform is the importance of art in elementary education.
Vergas Dairy Day will highlight the dairy industry this Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Vergas Community Center. East Otter Tail Dairy princess Melissa Albert of Henning and Miss Vergas 1999 Jessica Meyer will be on hand to promote dairy products.

Andy Engum of Detroit Lakes captured first place in the annual Father’s Day Golf Tournament played at the Frazee Golf Course Sunday. Engum won the medalist trophy with a low total of 110 for the 27 holes of medal play, one stroke better than runner-up John Korzendorfer, also of Detroit Lakes. Sixty-three golfers competed in the tournament including 19 in the championship flight. Pete Woodard of Frazee, who had won the tournament the past three Fathers Days, finished sixth Sunday.
Ninety-nine children have registered for the swimming lessons to be given at Town Lake Beach beginning Monday, June 23. These lessons are scheduled around all the rest of the summer activities.
Albert O. Ziemann, age 51, of Frazee accidentally drowned in Acorn Lake near Frazee on Thursday evening, June 12, 1975. The Becker County sheriff’s department reported that Ziemann was fishing alone in a boat when he apparently fell into the lake about 75 yards from shore. Ziemann was not a swimmer and was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident.
