Hornets compete in six events at state track meet

Aynslee Johannsen capped off a stellar freshman season on the track with a bit of hardware at the state track meet last week. 

Johannsen qualified for the finals in the girls 100-meter hurdles in sixth place with a time of 15.79. In the finals, Johannsen reached the podium with an eighth place finish with a time of 15.98. The finals featured a blistering pace that included a log jam of runners near the middle of the pack with the difference between sixth and eighth place being just .18 seconds. 

The winner of the event was Elizabeth Tuttle of St. Paul Academy and Summit School who nearly broke the state meet record as she posted a time of 14.67. 

In addition to Johannsen, the Hornet faithful remained busy throughout the state track meet as Frazee track members qualified for state in six events, including two people in the high jump alone. 

Sophomores Jayden Sonnenberg and Brynn Larson competed in the high jump with Sonnenberg finishing in a tie for 18th place with a jump of 5’. Larson finished in 31st place with a jump of 4’10”. The winner of the event was Annika Aakre of Park Christian with a jump of 5’7”. 

The 4×200-meter relay team of Johannsen, Aubree Bristlin, Sonnenberg and Larson finished in 17th place in the preliminaries with a time of 1:47.87. 

The 4×400-meter relay team of Johannson, Larson, Rilynn Ruiz and Sonnenberg finished in 12th place in the preliminaries with a time of 4:08.42 in the preliminaries. 

On the boys side of the track, the 4×200-meter relay team of Tyden Schaefer, Carter Sonnenberg, William Stroburg and Ayden Grossman finished in 21st place in the preliminaries with a time of 1:32.89. The team was just two seconds short of qualifying for the finals in the event. 

Schaefer also competed in the pole vault but did not register a height in the event.
