Lorrie Hess and Norman Westphalia completed 490 miles on the North Country Trail (NCT) when they decided to take a break and climb a mountain. The duo recently made it to Frazee, where they were transported to Detroit Lakes to rendezvous with family. Hess explained family brought a vehicle so the two could drive to Utah to tackle a few of the state’s mountain peaks.
Back In Motion recently opened in Frazee. Tucked in the Skyline Building off Maple Avenue is the opportunity to receive physical therapy and concussion therapy. Heather Mitchell said those with Medicare or Medicaid insurance would need a doctors order to be covered, but other insurance providers do not require that step. Those who want to seek assistance on their own accord without insurance are also welcome.
The entrance of Frazee Elementary will look much different come fall. The school board approved two change orders at a special meeting on Monday, June 22, one of which will relocate the office next to the entrance. Currently the school is under renovation with a new HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system being installed. The new system will provide each classroom with temperature controls for both heating and cooling.

Fireworks will fly this Fourth of July over Town Lake in Frazee. A show of at least $2,500 worth of fireworks lasting 20 minutes will be shot off at dusk over the lake. The location is expected to be over East Town Lake, across from the Lions Park near Town Lake Trailer Court, said Frazee Councilman Jim Rader, organizer.
Decisions about railroad crossing closing and improvements in Burlington Township could be made in early July. That’s according to Burlington Township Board Chairman Brian Smith. Issues to be considered in connection with those decisions were discussed—sometimes emotionally—at a public hearing and informational meeting at Burlington Township Hall Monday.
Viv Holmer’s dad, George Riggle, was a trapper. “I learned a lot from him,” she said. And last week, Holmer saw some bear tracks. She found them after a black bear, she is sure, trashed the bridge feeder in her yard. “For the past 25 years, I’ve known there’s been bears around here, but not this close,” she said. But apparently so.

A 16-year-old Frazee youth is alive and well today after a near drowning incident at Town Lake here about 4:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The lucky boy is Jeff Illg, son of Luverne Illg of Frazee and Mrs. Barbara Budach of northern Minnesota. There are two heroes involved in the successful rescue—Kevin Niemann, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Niemann of Frazee who pulled the boy from the bottom of the lake, and an unidentified Detroit Lakes man who gave Jeff mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when the boy was brought to the dock. Jeff had regained consciousness when the Detroit Lakes Ambulance arrived at the scene.
Sunday night was “Ladies Night” at the Daggett Truck Line 20th Annual Awards Banquet. The Daggetts’ wives were in charge of the program.
For the second time in about a month, the Frazee Forum has taken on a new appearance. The first change came on May 29 when the Forum switched to modern offset printing and a full size, larger newspaper after being printed tabloid size by letterpress for 15 years. This week the Forum is changed from eight skinny columns per page to a new six “fat” columns for news and advertising.
