Frazee Post 15 sweeps Park Rapids as part of six game week

The Frazee Post 15 Legion baseball team wrapped up a grueling stretch of six games in just five days last week. Post 15 went 3-3 in those is games, including wins over Breckenridge by a score of 7-5 and a sweep of Park Rapids Area by scores of 12-1 and 5-0.
In addition to their three wins the legion lost a pair of games to Hawley on Friday by scores of 5-3 and 7-5, as well as an 11-2 game to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
This week Post 15 traveled to Wadena-Deer Creek on Monday for a doubleheader, before traveling to Detroit Lakes on Thursday for a game on the road.
On Monday Post 15 will return home when they host Pelican Rapids in a doubleheader, before traveling to New York Mills for a pair of games on Thursday, July 10.
Monday
A four-run bottom of the fifth inning proved to be just enough to help Post 15 get by Breckenridge by a score of 7-5 on Monday night.
Frazee took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Karson Krause scored on a passed ball and Frazee made the score 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning when Adam Vigen scored on an error.
After Breckenridge made the score 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning, Frazee gave itself a bit of breathing room as Dawson Lyman and Vigen both scored on an error in the bottom of the fifth inning, before Drew Mekalson hit a two out, two-run single to make the score 6-1 in favor of Frazee.
Post 15 added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an error to make the score 7-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning.
Breckenridge made a game of it when the opening four hitters of the inning reached base and brought the tying run up to the plate with two outs, before Krause was able to strike out the final batter of the game by a score of 7-5.
Vigen and Krause led the way offensively with two hits and two runs apiece, while Drew Mekalson drove in a pair of runs.
Vigen picked up the win on the mound as he went 5 2/3 innings and gave up three hits, one unearned run and struck out six batters. Krause pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and gave up five hits, four earned runs and struck out two batters.

Tuesday
Frazee outhit DGF by a 7-6 margin, but five errors led to five unearned runs and helped DGF come away with an 11-2 win over Post 15.
Frazee led 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning when Mason Mickelson scored on an error with two outs. Unfortunately, DGF charged back with a huge seven run top of the fourth inning in which they scored six runs before Frazee was able to record an out on their way to a seven run inning to break the game open.
Frazee made the score 7-2 in the bottom half of the fourth inning when Mickelson hit an RBI single, but would get no closer as DGF added three more runs in the fifth and another run in the top of the seventh inning to come away with an 11-2 win.
Asher Blaine and Mickelson led the way offensively with a pair of hits apiece.
Dawson Lyman took the loss on the mound as he pitched four innings and gave up five hit, seven runs of which three were earned and walked six batters.

Wednesday
Frazee’s grueling week on the diamond continued on Wednesday as Post 15 hosted Park Rapids for a double header, their fourth game in three days.
In the opening game of the night, Post 15 was able to score runs in bunches early in the game as they scored six runs with two outs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to three Park Rapids error, a walk and three hits in a row to take a 6-0 lead.
Highlights of the big inning included RBI singles by Adam Vigen and Asher Blaine, as well as a two-run double by Noah Mekalson to lead to the cause.
After Park Rapids scored a run of their own in the top of the third inning on an error, Frazee plated four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a commanding 10-1 lead. Dawson Lyman brought the first run of the inning across the plate on an RBI single, before Frazee once again went on a two out rally thanks to a Mekalson two-run double and Karson Krause RBI single to make the score 10-1.
Frazee added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to end the game by the 10-run rule.
Post 15 was led offensively by Vigen, Blaine and Mekalson who all finished with three hits, while Mekalson finished with four runs batted in. Blake Sonnenberg scored three runs, while Mekalson, Conner Erickson and Lyman all scored two runs in the win.
Blaine picked up the win on the mound as he went all five innings and gave up just two hits and one unearned run, while striking out eight hitters.
In the second game of the night, Frazee took advantage of six Park Rapids errors to come away with a 5-0 win and complete the two game sweep.
Frazee took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Blake Sonnenberg scored on an error. Post 15 added two more runs in the third inning on an Andrew Aho RBI single and an error to take a 3-0. They added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning on a fielder’s choice and wild pitch to end the game by a score of 5-0.
It would be all the run support Noah Mekalson would need as he dominated Park Rapids on the mound by going all seven innings and striking out 10 batters. He scattered just four hits and three walks on his way to the shutout win.

Friday
Frazee’s grueling second week of the Legion season came to a close on Friday with a pair of losses to Hawley.
In the opening game of the night, Frazee was able to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Karson Krause was hit by a pitch with the bases laded in the fourth inning and Blake Sonnenberg led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run to make the score 2-2.
Unfortunately, Hawley plated three runs in the sixth inning when Thomas Slette led off the inning with a solo home run, and scored another run on a bases loaded walk and fielder’s choice to make the score 5-2. Frazee scored a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning on a fielder’s choice, but would get no closer as they fell by a score of 5-3.
Karson Krause took the loss on the mound as he went 5 1/3 innings and gave up six hits, five runs of which four were earned, while striking out six hitters. Drew Mickelson pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless ball in relief while striking out a pair of Hawley batters.
Frazee’s busy week came to a close with a tough 7-3 loss to Hawley on Friday night.
Hawley scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, before scored three more in the fifth inning.
Frazee scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings to score their three runs.
Drew Mekalson took the loss on the mound as he went 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits, seven runs of which six were earned and striking out three hitters. Cael Pausch pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball in relief, while striking out one hitter.
