The Frazee Legion Post 15 dropped a pair of one-run games to Wadena last Monday night.
In the opening game of the night, Post 15 broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning when Asher Blaine scored on a Drew Mekalson sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 1-0 in favor of Frazee.
Post 15 took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning when Noah Mekalson scored on an error with two outs. Unfortunately, Wadena was able to put two runs across the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and force extra innings.
Wadena led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a pair of walks, before a sacrifice bunt moved runners to second and third base with one out. Wadena scored its first run on a fielder’s choice, before scoring on a single with two outs to tie the game at 2-2.
Frazee had a chance to come away with a run in the top of the eighth inning as Post 15 had runners on first and second base with two outs, but were unable to get a runner across the plate.
Adam Vigen was able to get out of a bit of a jam in the bottom of the eighth inning when Wadena went on a two out rally to load up the bases, before he forced a ground out to the second baseman to end the scoring opportunity.
Frazee went scoreless in the top of the ninth inning, before Wadena once again went on a two out rally by hitting back-to-back two out doubles to get a run across the plate and come away with a 3-2 win.
Post 15 was outhit in the game by a 3-2 margin, but Blaine and Vigen were able to work out a few jams along the way to keep Frazee in the game on the mound. Blaine pitched the opening seven innings of the game by giving up five hits and two earned runs to go along with two walks and eight strike outs. Vigen went 1 2/3 innings and gave up three hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out one batter.
In the second game of the night, Post 15 dropped another 3-2 game to Wadena to fall to 3-6 on the season.
This time around, Wadena jumped out to a 3-2 lead after scoring two runs in the first inning and a single run in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Frazee got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning when Karson Krause scored on a wild pitch. They made the game 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Conner Erickson scored on a passed ball, but were unable to get another run across the plate as they fell by a score of 3-2.
Post 15 was once again outhit in the loss, this time by a 7-2 margin, while committing five errors that led to a pair of unearned runs.
Noah Mekalson took the loss on the mound as he went five innings and gave up seven hits, three runs of which one was earned, walked three hitters and struck out five hitters.
