The opportunity to watch motorcycle riders compete in games is coming to Frazee on Saturday, Aug. 1 as part of Celebration Day. The day (and night) is full of events with the goals of helping the Frazee-Vergas VFW survive and thrive during the financial hardship posed from the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the official Turkey Days was canceled, there were a few events held by local businesses. The BackYard Station hosted Terry Shannon for a metal detector demonstration, as well as an opportunity to purchase his recently published book about treasure hunting. The Frazee Golf Course also hosted a tournament on Saturday.
One year after graduating high school, Kaitlin Wake has been named as the head dance coach for Aitkin High School. The 2019 Frazee High School graduate knew the Aitkin team leaders from her time competing against them as a Frazee Fly Girl dance team member. The 19-year-old daughter of Chuck and Julie Wake is attending the University of Minnesota, Duluth and working toward a teaching degree (with a double major in elementary education and special education), and a minor in dance.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has approved $100,000 for restoration and stabilization of the Otter Tail River where the Frazee dam was removed last year. The allocation was approved within the last two weeks and preliminary surveying for the project has already begun, according to DNR Area Fisheries Manager Dave Friedl.
Frazee’s population is expected to swell during the 46th annual Frazee Turkey Days and All-School Reunion July 27-30. Due to construction, there are many changes in this year’s Turkey Day posters, which were printed earlier. For example, all food events were moved from the Frazee Event Center to the Frazee High School (FHS) cafeteria. These include the two breakfasts, alumni supper and turkey luncheon.
East Main Avenue should be able to take parade traffic by Sunday, as contractors hope to remove all sidewalks and lay boardwalks, remove temporary lines, fill in the street and lay a one-inch temporary layer of crushed blacktop over the street. It is estimated the East Main Avenue project will be completed near the end of August.

Schmidt’s carnival rides will once again be at Frazee Turkey Days, according to Leonard Schrandt, advance ticket sales chairman. Advance tickets are $1.25 for five tickets and are presently being sold at Sanders Deep Rock, Stevens’ Skelly, and L. B. Hartz Store.
This year the “Turkey Picnic Lunch” will be “better than ever,” according to Mabel Hamilton, Food Preparation Chairman. The annual luncheon, which will be held on Sunday, Aug. 3, will be served at the Lower Elementary School. The cost is $1 and children under six will be served at no charge. Serving time will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Blue Tornados won their fourth game Wednesday, July 23, by defeating the Bombers 22-15. Highlights of the game were doubles by Julie Schade, Tracey Newling, Judi Fett (2), Avis Christensen and Toni Seaberg, Judi Fett hit a triple.
