Frazee wins one, drops a pair in Legion district tournament

The Frazee Legion Post 15 had its season come to an end at the district tournament over the weekend.
On Thursday night Post 15 defeated Fosston by a score of 9-2, before falling to Thief River Falls and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Friday to end their season.
Post 15 wrapped up its Legion season with a record of 9-9 overall and advanced to the district tournament after taking third place in the sub district tournament just over one week ago.
Thursday
Asher Blaine struck out 13 hitters and gave up just two earned runs as the Frazee Post 15 Legion team defeated Fosston by a score of 9-2 on Thursday. The commanding win the opening round of the district tournament came after Fosston took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Tanner Vig hit a two-run triple to give Fosston the early lead.
Karson Krause made the score 2-1 in the top of the third inning when he connected with a sacrifice fly to first base that brought Blaine across the plate to score.
Frazee tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning when Drew Mekalson scored on an Adam Vigen error, before Post 15 took the lead for good in the sixth inning when Andrew Aho connected with an RBI single and Krause hit a bases clearing double to bring three runs across the plate and make the score 6-2 in favor of Frazee. Drew Mekalson made the score 7-2 with an RBI single with two outs to wrap up a five run inning for Post 15.
Frazee added two more runs in the seventh inning when Aho connected with a single that brought two runs across the plate.
Aho had a solid night at the plate as he went 3-4 with three RBIs, while Blaine and Drew Mekalson each finished with two hits in the win.
Blaine picked up the win on the mound as he went seven innings and gave up just seven hits, two earned runs, one walk and struck out 13 batters.
Friday
Frazee had its season come to an end on Friday as they dropped a pair of games to Thief River Falls and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton. In their first game of the day, Thief River Falls jumped out to an 8-0 lead after scoring three in the first inning, two in the second and three runs in the third inning on their way to a 12-2 win.
Errors proved to be too much for Post 15 to overcome as the team committed seven errors that led to 12 unearned runs in the loss.
The lone runs for Post 15 came on an error by Dawson Lyman and an Asher Blaine RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. The game ended by the 10-run rule in five innings.
Karson Krause took the loss on the mound as he gave up eight hits and 12 unearned runs, while striking out four hitters in five innings of action.
In the second game of the day, errors once again proved to be too much for Post 15 to overcome as the team committed five errors that led to four unearned runs as Frazee fell to DGF by a score of 11-6.
Frazee took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Noah Mekalson scored on a Blake Sonnenberg error.
DGF took a 2-1 lead after scoring single runs in both the first and second innings, before breaking the game open with three runs in the third inning and five more runs in the fourth inning to take a 10-2 lead.
Frazee tried to make a game of it late as Adam Vigen led off the top of the fifth inning with a double and didn’t wait there long as Dawson Lyman followed with an RBI double of his own to make the score 10-2 in favor of DGF. Karson Krause added another run later in the inning on a two out triple to bring Noah Mekalson across the plate.
DGF scored another run in the bottom half of the fifth inning, before Frazee went on a big two out rally in the seventh inning to cut the lead to 11-6. With a pair of runners on base, Krause hit an RBI single, before Sonnenberg brought two runs across the plate on a double to make the score 11-6. Post 15 was able to load the bases with two outs, but DGF was able to force a pop out to end the game and advance in the elimination bracket.
DGF and Frazee combined to collect 27 hits in the game, as well as eight total errors.
Noah Mekalson led the way offensively for Post 15 as he went 4-4 with three runs scored. Krause went 3-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Lyman connected with a pair of hits and an RBI.
Vigen took the loss on the mound as he went 2 1/3 innings and gave up six hits, five runs of which four were earned, walked five batters and struck out two.
