Lake Agassiz Regional Library announces fall event series

0Lake Agassiz Regional Library will offer a series of enriching and entertaining programs as part of its Fall Legacy Event Series, which will kick off on September 5. From rosemaling workshops to live music to genealogy workshops and author visits, the library has something for everyone this fall. Presenters will visit multiple locations around Lake Agassiz Regional Library’s seven county region.

Rosemaling Class with Dorothy Hoover,
September 5-October 4
Discover the art of Norwegian Telemark Rosemaling with artist Dorothy Hoover. Registration is required for this five-hour class, which will lead participants throughout the process of creating their own rosemaling plate.
All materials are provided and registration opened on Tuesday, Aug. 26. Register by calling a participating location or by visiting www.larl.org/rosemaling.
Storytelling with
Woodcarver Jerry Ness, September 9-23
Join your library for entertaining stories and learn from woodcarver and storyteller Jerry Ness. Ness will share how he creates hand-carved figures as well as the stories which inspire his art.
Vikings in the Attic
with Author Eric Dregni,
September 11-13
Author Eric Dregni (For the Love of Cod, In Cod We Trust) will discuss his book “Vikings in the Attic” and lead audiences on an exploration of the historic sites, cultural impact and traditions of Scandinavians in the Midwest.
Project : Constellation, September 19-October 18
Guitarist Santiago Silva, a native of Sweden, and violinist Christina Silva will offer entertaining performances of Scandinavian music featuring Norwegian and Swedish songs sung in their original languages.
Becoming Little Shell with Author Chris La Tray, September 24 at 6 p.m. at the Moorhead Public Library
Chris La Tray, author of Becoming Little Shell, will share his journey of discovering his heritage and the history of his ancestors.
The Bell in the Lake with Author Lars Mytting, One Book, One Community Author Visit, September 29 at 7 p.m. at Knutson Campus Centrum at Concordia College, Moorhead
Marking the 200th anniversary of the first organized Norwegian emigration to the US, One Book, One Community welcomes Norwegian author Lars Mytting for an author visit centered around The Bell in the Lake.
Genealogy 101 with Rick Crume, October 2-29
Genealogy expert Rick Crume will lead a one hour long presentation on how to access and utilize the genealogy databases available through the library and will be available after to answer questions.
Kitchens of Hope with The Ultimate Minnesota Cookie Book Author Lee Svitak Dean, October 6-8
The Ultimate Minnesota Cookie Book author Lee Svitak Dean will share about her latest project, a book called “Kitchens of Hope.” Bringing readers on a culinary journey around the globe, “Kitchens of Hope” features recipes and stories of immigrants from more than thirty countries and celebrates cuisines from all around the world.
A Minnesota Original: Governor Rudy Perpich with Ben Schierer,
October 9-21
Hear the behind-the-scenes stories of Minnesota’s longest-serving governors, Rudy Perpich, with a historical presentation by author Ben Schierer. Schierer will share about Perpich’s background, including his youth on the Iron Range and his rise to the office of governor.
The Thirteenth Crime: Lillie’s Ghost with

Minnesota author Janet Preus will lead audiences through the historic events surrounding the death of Lillie Field, the subject of her book, The Thirteenth Crime, which is set in 1887’s Otter Tail County.
It Took Courage with Author Christopher Lehman, October 23-25
In 1860, Eliza Winston secured her freedom through a legal appeal after escaping enslavement in Minnesota. Join your library to hear from “It Took Courage,” author Christopher P. Lehman as he sets the record straight, separating fact from fiction and showcasing Eliza Winston’s remarkable battle for freedom.
Stone Soup with Author Christel Gollnick,
November 13-15
Discover the enduring legend of Stone Soup with author Christel Gollnick, leading youth through an activity to help them understand the story of Stone Soup, as well as how everyone has something of value to share. While this program is geared for youth ages 5-10, all ages are welcome.
All events are sponsored by the Lake Agassiz Regional Library and offer free admission, thanks in part to funding from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
