Hornets improve to 4-0 overall, 1-0 in HOL

The Frazee Hornets remained undefeated last week with a pair of wins, including a 3-0 win over Pelican Rapids in their Heart O’ Lakes Conference opener on Thursday night.

The Hornets have also picked up wins against New York Mills, East Grand Forks and Lake Park-Audubon to improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference. 

This week the Hornets will travel to Menahga on Tuesday night, before heading to Hawley on Saturday for a tournament. 

Aug. 26

The Frazee Hornets kicked off their season with a dominating 3-0 win over the New York Mills Eagles on Tuesday, Aug, 26. 

After securing a 25-19 win in the opening game of the night, the Hornets defeated the Eagles 25-16, 25-19 to pick up the win. 

Brynn Larson had 12 kills in Frazee’s 3-1 win over East Grand Forks on Thursday, Aug. 28.

Ruby Eckert led a balanced offensive attack as the sophomore finished with eight kills, while senior Brynn Larson finished with seven, Jayden Sonnenberg finished with five, Aubree Bristlin picked up four, Leslie Moore finished with two and Aynslee Johannsen rounded out the offensive attack with one kill.

Analise Olson led the way with 14 assists, while Larson finished with 11. 

The Hornets also had a solid night from the service line with Sonnenberg, Olson and Eckert each finishing with five ace serves, while Larson finished with four and Katie Courneya picked up three aces in the win.

Aug. 28

Ruby Eckert finished with 21 kills and had a hitting efficiency of .425 as the Hornets improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-1 win over East Grand Forks on Aug. 28.

The Hornets dropped the first game by a score of 25-19, before flipping the script on the Green Wave to secure three straight wins by scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-21 to complete the comeback effort. 

In addition to Eckert’s 21 kills, Brynn Larson finished with 12 kills, Aynslee Johannsen finished with eight and Jayden Sonnenberg finished with seven kills.

Larson and Analise Olson finished with 26 and 22 assists respectively, while Kaija Aschnewitz led the team with 18 digs. Eckert finished with 16 digs and Katie Courneya also reached double figures with 13 digs in the win.

Tuesday

Frazee picked up its third straight win of the season on Tuesday night as the Hornets defeated Lake Park-Audubon on the road by a score of 3-0.

The Hornets were able to come away with wins by scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 to secure the three game sweep.

Jayden Sonnenberg had a solid night from the court as she finished with eight kills, two aces, three block assists and a solo block.

Meanwhile, Brynn Larson finished with six kills and 10 assists, while Ruby Eckert finished with six kills, seven digs and led the team with three aces.

Analise Olson finished with a team high 15 assists, while Katie Courneya finished with nine digs and Kaija Aschnewitz finished with eight.

Thursday

Frazee’s powerful offensive attack overwhelmed Pelican Rapids in the opening game of Thursday’s Heart O’ Lakes Conference opener as the Hornets defeated the Vikings 25-10. The second game was back-and-forth before the Hornets prevailed by a score of 27-25. They were able to complete the three game sweep by defeating the Vikings 25-15 in the third and final game.

Ruby Eckert, Jayden Sonnenberg and Aynslee Johannsen led a balanced offensive attack with six kills apiece, while Brynn Larson and Aubree Bristlin finished with five apiece.

Analise Olson led the way with 16 assists, while Larson finished with 11. 

Eckert led the team with 12 digs, while Kaija Aschnewitz finished with 11. Eckert was once again dominant at the service line as she finished with eight ace serves, while Larson finished with five and Sonnenberg finished with three aces to go along with a team-high five block assists.
