Frazee wins silver bracket at annual Hawley Tournament

The Frazee Hornets improved to 9-1 on the season and took first place in the silver bracket at the Hawley Tournament on Saturday.
After securing a 3-0 win over Menahga on Tuesday night, the Hornets made the trek to Hawley to participate in the large Hawley Nugget tournament. After finishing in second place with a record of 2-1 in pool play, the Hornets swept Barnesville and Wheaton/Herman-Norcross in the silver bracket to come away with the silver bracket championship.
This week the Hornets will return home for a pair of games as they will host Rothsay on Tuesday night in non-conference action, before hosting undefeated and the defending state champion Hawley Nuggets on Thursday night in conference action.
Tuesday
Frazee picked up its fourth win in straight sets on Tuesday night as the Hornets defeated Menahga 3-0 in non-conference action. After securing a 25-19 win over Menahga in the first game, the Hornets needed to fend off a comeback attempt by the Braves as Frazee secured a 27-25 win to take a 2-0 lead in the game. In the third game the Hornets completed the sweep with a 25-18 win to remain undefeated on the season.
Jayden Sonnenberg had a solid night at the net for the Hornets as she finished with 13 kills and six block assists in the win. Ruby Eckert finished with eight kills and Aynslee Johannsen finished with seven kills.
Analise Olson and Brynn Larson had a solid night setting up the hitters with 17 and 13 assists respectively, while Katie Courneya led the way with 13 digs. Kaija Aschnewitz finished with 12 digs and Eckert also reached double figures with 11 digs.
Sonnenberg, Eckert and Larson all finished with three ace serves in the win.

Saturday
Frazee captured first place in the silver bracket at the Hawley Tournament on Saturday. The Hornets opened the tournament with a tough 2-1 win over Wheaton/Herman-Norcross by scores of 25-22, 15-25 and 15-19, before sweeping Warren-Alverado-Oslo 2-0 by scores of 25-14, 25-11.
In their third game of the day, Frazee dropped their first match of the season to a tough Perham team by scores of 25-19, 22-25, 15-10 to fall 2-1.
With the loss the Hornets finished in second place in their pool play and qualified for the silver bracket.
In the opening round of the silver bracket the Hornets had their work cut out for them as they took on conference rival Barnesville. Frazee won the opening set by a score of 26-24, before completing the two game sweep by a score of 27-25 to qualify for the silver bracket championship game.
In the championship game, Frazee defeated Wheaton/Herman-Norcross for the second time in the tournament, this time 2-0 with scores of 25-22, 25-20.
