The Frazee Hornets led early, but a late first half touchdown set the tone for a tough final 24 minutes for the Hornets as they fell to Parkers Prairie on the road 31-12 on Friday night.

“It was a tale of two halves,” said head coach Russ Hackel. “In the first half, until that last drive they had, we were really putting it together and we looked like a really good team.”

After a first half in which the Hornets were able to stick with the defending Section 6A champion Panthers, the Hornets were unable to match the Panthers in the second half due to a number of miscues that proved to be too much to overcome. For example, Hackel said the Hornets missed a number of blocking assignments, made a few costly mistakes including driving the ball down to the 10-yard line, only to turn the ball over on downs without scoring and missed a handful of defensive assignments that led to big plays.

“Everything that we shouldn’t do we did,” said Hackel about the second half.

Individual and team stats for last week’s games were not available at the time of press.

The Hornets, who are now 3-2 on the season, will look to rebound as they travel to Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday night to take on the 2-3 Wolverines.

Hackel said the Hornets cannot overlook the Wolverines, who are coming off a win over Menahga on Friday night. He said Frazee has yet to reach its full potential and cannot overlook any team on their schedule from here-on-out.

Wadena-Deer Creek comes into the game averaging 13.2 points per game on offense, while surrendering 32.2 points per game on defense. Last week the Wolverines defeated Menahga by a score of 36-30 and also has a win against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle by a score of 8-0. The Wolverines also have losses against Lake Park-Audubon by a score of 55-8, Otter Tail Central by a score of 34-14 and Breckenridge by a score of 42-0.

Frazee is currently averaging 24.4 points per game on offensive, while surrendering just 18.2 points per game on the defensive side of the field.
