The Frazee cross country team competed in a pair of meets last week, including one of the largest meets in the region in Grand Forks on Saturday.

After traveling to Fergus Falls on Thursday, the Hornets made the trek to Grand Forks for the annual Border Battle with teams from North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Canada.

This week the cross country team will travel to Hawley on Thursday night in their lone action of the week.

Thursday

The Frazee cross country teams traveled to Fergus Falls on Thursday night to participate in the John Hermes Invitational. 

Eighth grader Rilynn Ruiz once again nabbed the top spot for the Hornets as she finished in 14th place with a time of 22:40. Junior Bristol Larsen finished in 16th place with a time of 23:42, Brooklynn Riewer took 22nd place with a time of 25:32, Zoey St. Germain finished in 26th place with a time of 27:45, Madilyn Perrine finished in 27th place with a time of 28:11 and Caleigh Pausch finished in 28th place with a time of 28:42. 

The boys team did a solid job of running in a pack as the five team members finished less-than two minutes apart from one another.

Coltyn Pender finished in 22nd place with a time of 20:50, Paul Sharp finished in 23rd place with a time of 20:56, Talon Hoverson finished in 26th place with a time of 22:06, Eli Heston finished in 27th place with a time of 22:08 and Hunter Piekarski finished in 28th place with a time of 22:18.

  As a team the girls finished in fourth place with 103 total points. Alexandria nabbed the top spot with 26 points, while Fergus Falls took second with 55 and Breckenridge/Wahpeton took third place with 59 points. 

On the boys side, the Hornets took fifth place with 126 points, while Alexandria took first place with 27 points, Fergus Falls took second with 42, St. Cloud Apollo finished in third place with 82 points and Breckenridge/Wahpeton finished in fourth place with 104 points. 

Saturday

On Saturday the Frazee Hornets made the trek to Grand Forks to participate in one of the largest cross country meets of the season, the Border Battle. The meet featured teams from Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Canada with 230 girls competing in the Class A varsity race and 303 boys in the Class A varsity race. 

Rilynn Ruiz led the way for the girls team as she finished in 49th place with a time of 21:30. Lola Hoehne finished in 81st place with a time of 22:22, Bristol Larsen finished in 122nd place with a time of 23:31, Brooklynn Riewer finished in 159th place with a time of 24:22, Madilyn Perrine finished in 202nd place with a time of 25:54, Zoey St. Germain finished in 211th place with a time of 26:47 and Caleigh Pausch finished in 219th place with a time of 28:17. 

On the boys side, Jonah Sharp led the charge for the Hornets as the senior took 122nd place with a time of 19:27. Eighth grader Coltyn Pender took 162nd place with a time of 20:00, Paul Sharp took 197th place with a time of 20:35, Talon Hoverson finished in 198th place with a time of 20:36, Hunter Piekarski finished in 219th place with a time of 21:03 and Eli Heston finished in 228th place with a time of 21:25. 

The girls team placed 20th as a group with 511 points. The meet was won by Hillsboro/Central Valley with 56 points and 29 teams fielding a Class A team. 

The boys team finished in 30th place out of 38 teams in the Class A meet with 742 points. Bowman County won the meet with 35 points.
