With the deer hunting season nearing closer, some hunters may find their local meat market is not processing venison this year. The COVID-19 pandemic saw several larger outfits temporarily close down due to outbreaks and other reduced processing qualities to maintain proper social distancing. Those changes pushed pork and beef farmers to contact smaller butchers. Both Ketter’s Meat Market and Lakes Area Processing have been steady for months. While processing pork and beef may be more lucrative, both companies that are owned by Frazee families are putting their customers first this November. Deer processing will happen for hunters at both meat markets, like it has every year since they opened.

For years the Riva family in rural Frazee has contemplated starting an orchard. This spring Michael Riva and his wife Nicole decided to make their dream come to a reality. After researching which trees would bear fruit in the northern climate, Riva was pleasantly surprised to find the selection was beyond apples. “We learned we could grow pears, which really surprised me,” Riva said.

The City of Frazee will soon have an ice cream, candy and souvenir shop that also offers home decor. Chic Shed Junque Boutique owners Aleisa and Dave Jopp are expecting the ice cream dipping cabinet for the store to arrive soon, but the opening date is yet to be determined as there are renovations to be completed.

The work of a beaver has been blamed for an electric power outage that lasted about 43 minutes in this area on Saturday, Oct. 4. Otter Tail Power’s representative in Frazee, Russ Vikesland, told the Forum the outage was caused by a beaver cutting off a large tree which fell across a 115,000 volt power line north of Pelican Rapids at 2:40 p.m. Saturday. Vikesland said this line is the main source of transmitting energy from the Hoot Lake plant in Fergus Falls to this area. A crew from Pelican Rapids was dispatched to correct the problem.

A group of concerned residents appeared at the Frazee City Council meeting Monday night to raise questions on a suggested site for a new municipal liquor store and whether or not a new store is needed for the city.
