Frazee to wrap up regular season at DGF

The Frazee Hornets improved to 18-5 overall and 4-3 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference after splitting a pair of conference games last week.

After defeating Breckenridge 3-1 in their final regular season home game of the season on Tuesday night, the Hornets hit the road and fell to Barnesville 3-0 on Thursday night. 

Frazee has just one game left on their schedule, which is a HOL Conference game against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on the road on Tuesday. 

The Section 8AA playoffs will kick off next week and the Hornets are in position to get a home game in the opening round of the playoffs. Seedings for the section tournament will take place on Saturday, Oct. 18. 

Tuesday

In a match up between two of the teams near the top of the Heart O’ Lakes Conference, Frazee came away with a hard-fought 3-1 win over the Breckenridge Cowgirls on Tuesday night.

None the games were more than three points apart during the four game match with the Hornets winning the first two sets by scores of 25-23, 25-23. Breckenridge fought back for a 25-22 win in the third game, before the Hornets needed to go a bit extra to defeat the Cowgirls in the fourth game as they won by a score of 26-24 to come away with the win. 

The four game win improved the Hornets to 4-2 in the conference and 18-4 overall. 

Jayden Sonnenberg had a big game from the net as the senior finished with 18 kills and hit .333 on the night. She also led the team with five block assists. Aubree Bristlin and Ruby Eckert each finished with 12 kills, while Aynslee Johannsen finished with 11 kills of her own.

Katie Courneya led the team with three ace serves to go along with 16 digs, while Analise Olson and Ella Ullrich finished with 26 and 20 digs respectively.

Eckert led the team with 23 digs, while Olson and Kaija Aschnewitz finished with 21 digs and Ullrich added 13 of her own.

Thursday

Just two days after a big 3-1 win over Breckenridge, the Hornets dropped a heart breaker to Barnesville 3-0 in another game that was never separated by more than two points in the final score of all three sets.

The Hornets dropped the opening two sets of the night by scores of 27-25, 27-25, before falling 25-23 in the third set to fall to 4-3 in the conference. 

Frazee was led by Aubree Bristlin with 10 kills. Aynslee Johannsen finished with nine kills, Ruby Eckert finished with eight kills and Jayden Sonnenberg finished with seven. Eckert also finished with 21 digs to lead the way for the Hornets. 

Analise Olson finished with 24 assists, while Ella Ullrich finished with 15 assists in the loss.
