The Frazee Hornets wrapped up its best regular season in school history last week and will look to keep their momentum going in the Section 8AA tournament on Wednesday when the fifth seeded Hornets host 12th seeded Warroad.

Analise Olson finished with 12 assists during last week’s game against the Rebels.

The Hornets broke the school record with 18 regular season wins this year and finished the regular season with a record of 18-6. In all, they won 50 sets and dropped just 19, despite falling to second seeded Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-8) in their regular season finale.

The 18 wins continues a steady climb for the Hornets who went 1-8 in 2020, 4-20 in 2021, 2-21 in 2022, 10-15 in 2023 and 12-13 last year.  The last time Frazee ended the season with a winning record was in 2019 when they finished 13-12 overall.

In Tuesday’s regular season finale, Aynslee Johannsen and Ruby Eckert led the charge offensively with seven kills, while Jayden Sonnenberg finished with six.
Analise Olson and Brynn Larson finished with 12 and eight assists respectively, while Eckert also led the team with 11 digs and one ace serve. Larson finished with four kills and nine digs, while Katie Courneya finished with eight digs of her own.

Katie Courneya passes the ball to a teammate during a recent game in Frazee. Last week she finished with eight digs against DGF.

Frazee finished the regular season with a 4-4 record in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference, which was good enough for a tie for fourth place with Breckenridge and Barnesville. Hawley won the conference with a record of 8-0 and DGF finished in second place with a record of 7-1. Perham took third place with a record of 6-2, while Pelican Rapids, Staples-Motley and Park Rapids Area all finished 1-7 in HOL action.

The Hornets will open the Section 8AA tournament on Wednesday against 12th seeded Warroad in Frazee. Tip-off time is at 6 p.m. with the winner taking on either fourth seeded Perham or 13th seeded Crookston on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the high seed.

The section tournament will continue next Tuesday night with the Section 8AA semi-finals with the finals set for Saturday, Nov. 1 at a to-be-determined location.

Hawley received the top seed in the section with DGF being seeded second. Roseau was seeded third and Perham fourth, while the Hornets received the fifth seed in the section.
