The Frazee Fire Department named Travis Gray as its October Firefighter of the Month. After graduating Frazee High School in 2011 he was approached by longtime firefighter Nathan Matejka, who is also his wife Becca (Riewer) Gray’s uncle. “He talked about joining and got me thinking about getting involved in my community,” Gray said.

With every setback there is a lesson to be learned, and sometimes a blessing that reveals itself in hindsight. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, church doors closed as scientists worked in labs to determine how society could move safely forward, while decreasing the number of potential infections, hospitalizations and deaths. Most churches complied with mandates for the greater good, but would not defer sharing the gospel. To provide their flock with the word, the internet and other media were utilized.

Ed Talone began his hiking advents when he was 8 and living in Maryland. The 63-year-old recalled his father would take him and his brother along canal trails. “My dad was an engineer and my brother became one,” he said. “They would be talking about arches and all I wanted to do was see what was beyond the bend. It never stopped. I’ve walked 60,000 miles now.”

Dressed like a tiger, 3-year-old Sasha Sazama fixes a snack at the Friday, Oct. 27 Early Childhood Fall Festival at Frazee Elementary School. She is the daughter of Jeff and Karla Sazama, Frazee.

A picture with a sword won’t be cut from the yearbook, the Frazee School Board decided. At its meeting Wednesday, Oct. 25, the board decided to allow senior Pat Findlay’s Tae Kwon Do picture to be used in the 2001 Wannegan, the Frazee High School yearbook. Previously, an administrative decision had been made not to allow the use of the photo because in it, Fineday has a sword.

A collision at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 near the intersection of Highway 87 and County Highway 31 blocked all traffic for about one-half hour. Drivers were Lisa Mickelson, 31, Frazee and Mavis Huwe, 43, Frazee. Several people were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for minor injuries and all were released, according to John Mickelson, who added, all were wearing seat belts.

Over 400 people attended the Annual Homemakers Achievement Night held Tuesday evening, Oct. 21 at the Audubon High School. This years theme was “Homemakers Yesterday & Today.” Homemaker groups from throughout Becker County set up displays depicting how homemaking has changed through the years.

The Region Four Nutrition and Program Centers will serve meals to Frazee and nearby community senior citizens (persons 60 and over and their spouses) starting Wednesday, Nov. 12. Elaine White, Nutrition Program Director, states that meals will be served Wednesdays and Fridays at 12 Noon at the request of the Frazee Senior Citizens.
