The Lake Region Arts Council (LRAC) Board of Directors plays a vital role in supporting and advocating for the arts across our nine-county region of west-central Minnesota. There are two directors from each county that make up the Board.

Board directors demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing the arts within their communities and throughout the region. They bring an understanding of the unique cultural, social, and economic dynamics of their county and work collaboratively to ensure that LRAC programs reflect the diversity and creativity of our region.

Directors come from many careers and backgrounds, and are resourceful leaders who engage with artists and organizations to move LRAC’s mission forward. Some directors work in the arts sector outside of the board, but it is definitely not a pre-requisite for service.

Key responsibilities include establishing LRAC’s policies, approving the biennial plan, overseeing the budget and monthly expenditures, recruiting new board members, and promoting LRAC’s programs within their county. Directors also spend time reviewing grant applications online and participating in grant rounds and monthly Board meetings—an average commitment of about seven volunteer hours per month.

At the LRAC board retreat held in Otter Tail County in late October, directors participated in team-building activities, reflected on responsibilities, engaged in strategic planning and renewed their momentum for the year ahead. As one participant said, “Serving on this board is both a responsibility and a joy—the work we do is gratifying and meaningful.”
