Loss ends Frazees season with 20-7 record

The Frazee Hornets had their magical season come to an end on Tuesday night as they fell to top seeded and top ranked Hawley 3-0 in the Section 8AA semi-finals. The Nuggets would go on to defeat the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines 3-0 in the Section 8AA finals to make a return to state as they look to defend their state championship.

On Tuesday, the Hornets lost their first game by a score of 25-13, before fighting back in game two to fall just 25-18. In the third and final game the Nuggets were able to overpower the Hornets and came away with a 25-10 win to complete the three game sweep. 

Head coach Chrissy Edwards said Hawley is a great team, but she was proud of the Hornets and their fight all season long. 

Frazee was led offensively by Ruby Eckert and Aynslee Johannsen who finished with five kills apiece, while Aubree Bristlin finished with three kills. 

Katie Courneya led the team with three ace serves, while Analise Olson and Brynn Larson each finished with eight assists.

Defensively, four Hornets reached double figures in digs with Larson leading the way with 16, while Eckert and Courneya each finished with 15 and Olson chipped in with 10.

The Hornets end their season with the best record in program history with a record of 20-7 overall, including a 4-4 record in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.
