Jeremy “Hoby” Perala saw the world, for better and worse, during his service with the Marine Corps. The Evergreen resident joined the armed services during peace time. He was training in Okinawa, Japan in September of 2001, and on chow hall duty. That meant he woke at 3:30 a.m. to help prepare breakfast. A typhoon was hitting at the same time, so others were securing the barracks. After battening the hatches and refueling the body, everything changed. Perala recalls being summoned to the T.V. room where he watched the September 11 attacks on the Twin Towers unfold.
