Area residents have the opportunity to purchase a plate of holiday cookies, and in return, the funds will go towards goodwill projects in the area. The sweet opportunity provided by Joanna (Moltzan) Ringsrud and her family members provides two choices, either 80 items for $30 or 40 items for $20.
In the midst of what seemed to be a continuous downward spiral, a local couple saw truth in the adage, “if there is a will, there is a way.” Community Alliance Church of Detroit Lakes and several businesses in the lakes community are building a work garage for Fred Lassonde, a rural Detroit Lakes man. Church member Dennis Pausch of rural Frazee learned the former detective was stripped of his job by a traumatic brain injury when a skid plate hit him his the head while working on his truck.
The Vergas Community Club teamed up with businesses in and around the city to provide holiday shoppers with a relaxing experience. In addition to offering a clean, safe-environment where unique gifts can be found, the shops also accept Holiday Bucks.

Frazee-Vergas High School senior Jeremy Mayfield was killed Sunday, Nov. 19 while attempting to assist a motorist east of New York Mills. Mayfield, 18, son of Robert and Cindy Mayfield, rural Frazee, was the only person of eight involved in the four-car accident who was killed, although four others were taken to hospitals. The accident took place on Highway 10 about one-half mile east of New York Mills overpass in the eastbound lane. Icy conditions were reported.
Bonita Jepson Andersen’s voice still chokes with emotion when she describes how close she came to losing her family several weeks ago. More accurately, it would have been her husband Eric and their son Dayton who would have lost Bonita, when a pancreatitis attack nearly took the Detroit Lakes woman’s life. “Life is just tenuous,” she said. “We take it for granted.”
Frazee will host its fifth annual Festival of Trees Nov. 24-27. The weekend of activities will also include Friday’s Hospice Light Up a Life community tree lighting ceremony and merchant specials, and Saturday’s variety show.

Mr. Louie Karsnia, a life long resident of the Frazee and Perham area, celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday, Nov. 23. Louie, who was born in Perham in 1875, farmed in the Frazee community most of his life. In 1964, he entered St. James Home in Perham, and later moved into Memorial Home, also in Perham, where he now resides. Louie has six daughters and three sons, all living in Minnesota. He also has many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The City Limits supper club, operated by Bud and Mary Julius, re-opened its doors Friday upon completion of an extensive enlarging and remodeling project. Julius said the building has been completely remodeled and refurnished and will accommodate 70 people for dining. The enlarged 36×48-foot building also includes an all-new kitchen and storage area.
Larry Buboltz, 33, was appointed Director of Rural Minnesota CEP, Inc. as reported by Board Chairman Richard Donat November 14. Donat said there were several excellent applicants interviewed for the position, but that Buboltz was selected because of his background and experience in a very complex job, and because of his past performance.
