While people cope with the changed world as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to run its course, the area pounds also had to make changes to daily routines. Alyssa Cahoon, the shelter manager for the Humane Society of the Lakes, emphasized the opportunity to adopt and volunteer are still available. Training orientation for volunteers is provided the last Monday of the month. Two sessions are offered to reduce the numbers in attendance.
Thousands of people count on blood donations everyday to survive. Connie Schroeder has seen twice how donations save lives. Her husband and daughter-in-law both would’ve died had it not been for those who give blood.
As the 2021 budget numbers are being crunched, the city of Vergas may see a rate increase to water and sewer services. The increases would pay for continual maintenance issues the city has faced with its utility services, as well as provide a small cushion of savings for large-scaled projects that are scheduled in coming years.

While Frazee made big headlines as a possible site for a new Becker County jail, no mention of Frazee was made at the jail committee’s first meeting. The Jail Committee Task Force 2000 met for its first time Monday, Nov. 27. Included on the committee are Frazee councilmen Jerome Tappe and Jim Rader. Tappe said absolutely no mention was made of Frazee as a possible site at this organizational meeting. Basically, the group had three main goals for its first meeting, the top-most was to determine whether or not a jail facility was needed in Becker County, Tappe said.
A new novel, “Sudden Death, Overtime,” by Dennis Courneya, formerly of Frazee, has been released. The novel deals with Courtney’s transition from “Teacher/Coach of the Year” to prison “inmate No. 198180,” and the events leading to that transition. It also describes Courtneya’s growing up in rural Minnesota, his duty in the Vietnam War, his life as a teacher in Hancock, Minn., and the expectations and pressures of coaching athletics.

An open house was held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Brenk of Frazee in honor of their 60th wedding anniversary. The joyful occasion was hosted by their five children, Bernard Brenk, Frazee; John (Jack) Brenk, Duluth; Dr. Paul Brenk, Detroit Lakes; Mylan Brenk, St. Paul, and Mrs. Bud (Louise) Wyborny, Detroit Lakes. A family reunion was held the same day and all of the Brenk’s 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild were present. A family portrait was also taken of the special occasion.
City street employees assisted by an Otter Tail Power Co. boom truck were busy the day after Thanksgiving putting up Christmas decorations in Frazee. The decorations shown on the main intersection were purchased last year by the Community Club, Mrs. Jaycees and VFW Post.
The Frazee City Council approved salary schedules Monday night whereby all full time monthly salaried city employees will receive an 8 percent wage increase for 1976. The total increases for the eleven employees on the schedule will cost the city an additional $4,848 next year with a total payroll of $61,572.00.
